Gearing up for the 2009 Depot Inn & Suites Kirksville Regional Air Show

As a friendly reminder, next week is the 2009 Depot Inn & Suites Kirksville Regional Air Show, to be held at
the Kirksville Regional Airport September 11 and 12.  If you plan to be in the area, please come on by and enjoy the festivities!
New Deck at the Chris Guenzler Million Mile Lookout Cabin

Railfans and other visitors alike will be delighted to enjoy the sweeping views now provided at the Chris Guenzler Million Mile Lookout Cabin overlooking the BNSF mainline in La Plata.  A new trackside deck in front of the cabin was built by Sizemore Construction of La Plata (pictured below).  The deck allows visitors to safely view the trains from above the trackside embankment.  It's a great place to relax in your lawn chair and to watch the many trains go by.

With our complimentary wi-fi, you can do work on your laptop, or even read the many great stories posted by the lookout's namesake, such as his latest, chronicling the deck itself (among other recent improvements in La Plata)!

More Improvements for La Plata Amtrak Station

La Plata's Amtrak station (and historic Santa Fe Depot) is in the midst of yet more improvements thanks to the work of Friends for La Plata Preservation (FLPP).  Reed Stites, a local La Plata contractor, is working on the trim and windows at the depot.  This project will revitalize the paint that had literally been sandblasted off the building by the many passing trains.  The project also includes replacement of some of the rotted wood trim.  Funding for this project was part of the money that FLPP received from the Missouri DOT for station upkeep and repair.  Many thanks to Reed for the good work!
