So what we noticed on our latest catch affirmed something really fishy is going on.
We’ve witnessed a high gloss sheen on the surface of our seafood, kinda’ like those waxed apples. As we let the water ran over our shrimp, you would’ve thought they were getting a bubble bath welcome. Come to find out that they were treated with STPP or sodium tripolyphosphate, an additive that keeps delicate morsels from drying out. Low and behold, STPP is a suspected neurotoxicant that can have caustic effects on the nervous system. Not to mention, it tastes really nasty if you don’t wash it off thoroughly. Who knew? Under current regulations, certain approved food additives don’t require disclosure. Just like most bagged salad and chicken are rinsed in a chlorine bleach bath, but you probably already knew that – or did you?
The message from our sponsor… Think before you bite…before it bites you. You just never know what might be lurking under the sparkling surface.
