Greetings!
Wash hands with soap and water? Check. Hand sanitizer? Check. Cover mouth with arm instead of hand when you cough? Check. Eating enough grapefruit and garlic? Hmmm. Better get back to the store.
In the fight against the flu, building your immunity naturally can be your best line of defense. A diet rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans and seeds, enjoyed raw as much as possible is a great start. Make it cleaner and keep yourself stronger throughout the season. Eating refined fats, sugars and other processed foods can actually have a negative impact on your immune function – so pass on that second slice of pie and savor the sweetness of yams, berries and citrus instead.
Good stuff in means you’re not on the sidelines for the holiday festivities. In our efforts to lighten up this holiday season, check out our tips for boosting immunity, our food safety tip of the week, who’s eating cleaner in Hollywood and a story that will make you think before you bite.
Here’s to happy, healthy holidays!
Food Safety Tip of the Week: Clean Chicken Thoroughly
|
The latest study from Consumer Reports has us all clucking. Estimates show over 32 billion pounds of chicken are consumed annually in the US alone, the study reveals that over 2/3 of chicken carries harmful bacteria including Campylobacter and Salmonella. Estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say more than a million people have salmonella poisoning every year from a variety of causes, the more prevalent being poor food handling.
You can reduce your risk by:
- Washing chicken thoroughly with Eat Cleaner Seafood + Poultry Wash. Just spray on all surfaces of chicken and cook. It will help kill surface bacteria and will keep your bird more tender.
- Using the Eat Cleaner Seafood + Poultry Wash to clean cutting surfaces thoroughly, including utensils, cutting boards and counters. Take special care not to cross contaminate with uncooked foods like lettuce.
- Washing your hands with soap and water thoroughly after handling.
