Spring 2010 Stepping Up CCRI Class Schedule

  • Stepping Up is pleased to offer our participants the following courses for the spring 2010 semester, in conjunction with CCRI. Classes will be held on the Rhode Island Hospital and Women and Infants' campuses. Please note that an additional Anatomy course may be added for the spring semester; however, we are still working to finalize this.

  • Psychology 2030: Developmental Psychology

  • Mondays
    5:15 - 7:45 pm
    January 25th - May 9th

    This course offers students an understanding of the significant dynamics of human development, with emphasis on the normal rather than abnormal. Levels or stages of development covered include prenatal, infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age. The earlier, more formative years receive special consideration because of their importance to later development. (Prerequisite: PSYC 2010: General Psychology)

  • English 0890: Critical Reading for College Success

  • Tuesdays
    5:15 - 7:45 pm
    January 26th - May 10th

    In this course, the student develops reading and thinking skills that are essential for college and workplace success. Focus is on building an enhanced vocabulary, as well as examining author's purpose and point of view, drawing inferences and applying advanced comprehension strategies. In addition, a work of nonfiction is required reading. (Prerequisite: Successful completion of ENGL 0850: Basic College Reading, appropriate test score or permission of instructor.)

  • Math 0500: Basic Arithmetic

  • Wednesdays
    5:15 - 7:45 pm
    January 27th - May 11th

    This course provides students with a thorough foundation in the topics of whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios and proportions, percents, geometric figures and measurement.

  • Math 1700: Algebra for Technology

  • Thursdays
    5:00 - 8:00 pm
    January 28th - May 12th

    Topics considered in this course include linear equations and their graphs, systems of linear equations, quadratic equations, algebraic fractions, exponents, radicals and logarithms. (Prerequisite: MATH 0600: Elementary Algebra)
