A Season for Thanks!

Dear (Contact First Name),

Welcome November!

November in the Northeast marks a season for shorter days, longer nights, crisper temperatures... as we rake the golden leaves of Fall off into the compost pile leaving the trees to bare their branches against a cold, grey Wintery sky.

It is a season for apple cider, pumpkin pies, turkeys and wine, a season for taking time out to dine with family and friends and to be thankful for all the blessings in our lives. This particular year, I am thankful for so very much.

Let me share with you just a few of the blessings I am thankful for:

THE ARTIST SHOWCASE:  Having just closed our Inaugural Issue of The Artist Showcase, I can't tell you how proud I am of this publication. Our Winter Edition celebrates the lives and works of 40 artists and debuts during Miami Arts Week this December. Take a look at The Artist Showcase.

We are currently working on our Spring Edition, which will premiere during Armory Arts Week in New York. For more information contact lisa@artmarketpublications.com.

LFFA - Last month, I introduced my new business, LFFA, Lisa Freedman Fine Arts with our inaugural exhibition premiering a show of Julio Susana's art.

LAYLA FANUCCI - This month, we are proud to feature the art of Layla Fanucci at LFFA.

For more on Layla, link to LFFA Featured Artist.

CHARTER OAK WINERY: Besides creating Art & Music, Layla works in tandem with husband, Robert Fanucci and son, David, creating, bottling, marketing and promoting a select offering of wine. Using the same old-world techniques and procedures Rob's grandfather used back in the day, along with much of the same equipment and tools, Fanucci's wines have been described as: silken, elegant, food-friendly and balanced and have received countless awards not just for the quality of the wine produced but for the faithfulness to the old-world family and wine-making traditions incorporated in doing so.

For more on Charter Oak Winery, visit: Charter Oak Winery. Words alone can't describe this wine. You will need to order a case or two for your own Holiday parties and gift-giving list.

Additionally, I am proud now to be representing the following artists.

LYNDA HOWITT - A happy childhood growing up on the shores of Australia instilled Lynda Howitt with a lifetime love of the sea. Lynda's paintings reflect her passion for the ocean in the tradition of impressionism and with a lyrical stroke approach that help her build movement and emotion.

"My paintings aim to be inspiring and beautiful in their simplicity, reflecting the natural inner beauty in us all. -Lynda Howitt

CATHY LOCKE - Cathy Locke is a seasoned creative professional with over 25 years of experience and a track record that spans multiple disciplines including: portraiture, fine art, illustration and teaching.

She has received accolades for her work from: The Pastel Society of America, Art Directors Club of New York, the Society of Illustrators in Los Angeles, Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, CA Magazine, The Pastel Journal and Campaign Papers.

Her work is in private, corporate and public collections worldwide.

SARAH TRUMAN - British-based artist, Sarah Truman, is a portrait artist, illustrator and encaustic painter. Her works have been commissioned for families, book illustrators, publishers and corporations for private and public projects.

A taste of what each of the above-mentioned artists and ventures is detailed below.

There will be more on each of the newly signed on artists in upcoming newsletters and blogs.

To receive future newsletters detailing the lives and works for these and other equally exciting artists and projects I now represent, click on the green 'Join Mailing List'  link at bottom left hand corner of this email.

We thank-you for your continued interest and wish you a Happy, Healthy & Art-filled Holiday.

Artfully yours,

Lisa Freedman

Introducing: The Artist Showcase Inaugural Winter Issue!
Showcasing The World's Finest Emerging & Mid-Career Artists
in the Hottest Art Centric Cities on the Map
published by Art Market Publications

The Artist Showcase Inaugural Issue
The Artist Showcase

The Artist Showcase is a newly launched, highly anticipated, high gloss publication designed to bring a pool of hidden talent into clear view for buyers, dealers, collectors, art fair attendees and art professionals to find, marvel and collect the next generation of art stars in the world.

In its first, inaugural, Premiere Winter Edition, released this month during Miami Arts Week, The Artist Showcase features the talents of 40 artists from all walks of life and from all corners of the world, at varying levels in their careers.

Many of these artists have had to overcome adverse conditions, fleeing oppressive political and economic climates to find a more peaceful lifestyle for their own passions to follow.

Some have had successful careers in other professions, only to be able to follow their true calling as artists after pursuing other vocations.

At varying stages of their artistic development, the artists represented on the pages of The Artist Showcase feature a wide range of talent from emerging artists, just out of school on up to internationally recognized artists who have been creating, exhibiting and selling their work for decades.

What they all have in common is a desire to share their art, and their stories with a wider audience, which is why The Artist Showcase  was created- for artists to be able to do just that!

The Artist Showcase is as close to having the original works of artists at hand, in a high-gloss, high quality print publication. Here you are able to experience the work first-hand. Contact information for the artists and/or their representatives is available in the publication for interested parties to exercise the option of buying or commissioning the work directly.

Besides showcasing the works of 40 artists, this Edition of The Artist Showcase also features The Red Dot Fair as a Premiere Boutique Art Fair for emerging and mid-career talent. Red Dot Miami returns to the Wynwood section of the City during Miami Arts Week.

MISSION AND OVERVIEW:

The Artist Showcase brings undiscovered, emerging and mid-career artists together with galleries and active art collectors to the most progressive art buying cities of the world!

Published by Art Market Publications, it is a goal of The Artist Showcase  to provide artists with the best and broadest amount of exposure within the most appropriate target audiences to maximize the potential of their finding and collaborating with the finest resources and opportunities best suited for their work.

The Artist Showcase does this by targeting the most art-centric locations in the United States where the highest profile International Art Fairs are held. Beginning with the Winter Issue, during Miami Arts Week, where thousands of art gallerists, buyers, dealers, collectors and journalists converge for a week filled with major art shows, The Artist Showcase  brings you many of the world's most talented artists who have yet to be discovered. Readers will enjoy pouring over the pages of images, reading about their stories and process, learning of the inspiration behind the images, then having the benefit of referring to their websites or representatives for more information on each of them.

In its first year, The Artist Showcase will be published with each season of major art fairs: Winter in Miami; Spring in New York; Summer in the Hamptons; Fall back in New York. Future issues will expand into other markets where other major shows are held: Santa Fe, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, Aspen and more.

For Artists seeking greater exposure for their work, The Artist Showcase provides a great venue to do that.

For Galleries, art fair producers, non-profit organizations, or the like, seeking new artists, The Artist Showcase provides dozens of undiscovered, unrepresented, emerging and mid-careers talent representing the wide range of mediums available.

Service and hospitality organizations in host cities to the major art fairs where The Artist Showcase distributes, will find the publication a great way to gain exposure for their own businesses in luxury markets throughout the United States.

Layla Fanucci
Montmarte by Layla Fanucci
The second artist  that I have the pleasure of showcasing in my new Atelier is Layla Fanucci, an Internationally acclaimed painter based in St. Helena, California where her family also owns and operates the Charter Oak Winery (see next article).

Layla started her creative life out as a musician, playing and teaching piano and guitar, putting herself through San Francisco State University where she pursued a degree in sociology and graduated in 1980.

When she married Robert Fanucci and settled into a new home in the Napa Valley in the late 1990's, Layla found herself searching for a 'big, live work of art' to grace their new home. Finding nothing to her liking, she purchased some art supplies instead and created a magnificent, colorful abstract painting she could not otherwise find on the market.

A Star is Born
Layla's first painting opened the floodgates to an exciting new career and to the hundreds of paintings that followed in the ensuing years, as well as to the development of her own unique painting technique that has since become her 'signature style' . By 2001, Layla was able to stop teaching music and devote herself to making art full-time. She followed her first painting with a version of Matisse's The Red Studio, as well as two other works inspired by Matisse. Then she began to create portraits of her family, still lifes, city scenes, and figural abstractions.

These paintings, while diverse in character, maintained vibrant color, bold forms, energetic brush strokes and a sense that whatever the style or subject matter, the painting was charged with underlying emotion. Fanucci's canvases evoke a real pleasure in the act of creating, and she has said that "every time I paint I get the same feeling of electricity, satisfaction, and completion"  that she had first experienced in creating musical works. Among her early influences beyond Matisse, Fanucci cites the work of Picasso and Cezanne, her architect father and her extensive travels.

A Style Is Created
In 2005, those travels emerged as an on-going series of paintings, each inspired by a specific city. These dense images realized in black brush strokes on colored grounds, capture both a sense of place and the wonder and intensity of urban life in cities across the world: San Francisco, New York, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, Barcelona and beyond. Each painting, whether it be San Francisco today, NYC in the 1920's or a small town in Italy, are icons of urban wonder seen through the lens of the 'wish-I-was-there' desire of the painter in her studio. All of Fanucci's cityscapes are edited in a manner which best captures the iconic element that identifies the site's energy and 'magic'.

Fanucci's paintings are paradoxes in the best sense, strong visual presences, yet somehow immaterial, even dream-like. These paintings exist as evocations of places we inhabit'
-John Mendelsohn

In her own words, "these paintings embody my complex feelings about cities. I like their energy, accessibility, people, history, and architecture. I also find cities claustrophobic, with the sensory overload of too many people and too much going on. My paintings have the whole range of these faeelings, all at the same time - my impression of that place."
-Layla Fanucci

Layla's art has been represented and exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. She has received many commissions and her work is in numerous private and corporate collections. She is currently working on a book, which is expected to be out in 2012. In the meantime, a catalogue of her work is available through LFFA, and her paintings may be viewed at our Sag Harbor Atelier by appointment.

Charter Oak Winery
Charter Oak Winery
Rob Fanucci's earliest memories of his grandfather, Guido Ragghianti, are of watching him picking and crushing grapes in the fields and vineyards of his Charter Oak Avenue property in St. Helena, California. Fanucci was mesmerized by the color, scent and taste of the crushed grapes and would soon start working with the tools of the trade as his grandpa taught him the old-world techniques of the craft. Years later, Fanucci, a tax attorney by day, would inherit all of his grandfather's winemaking tools, including a 100 year old basket press, home-made punch tools, barrels, funnels and more.  He and his family would also come to inhabit the home and property on which those childhood memories were made.

Today, Fanucci incorporates those same old-world techniques and tools (and is teaching his own son) to create award-winning wines that have been described as 'silken, elegant, balanced' in a winery that takes pride in being the 'most original and old-world winery of some 500 wineries in Napa Valley'.

Visitors to St Helena may enjoy meeting the Fanucci's, touring the winery, tasting samples and touring wife Layla's art studio above the wine cellar, not to mention the Italian Hospitality the Fanucci's also inherited from both their families.

Take home a case of their Zinfandel, Petite Sirah or Cabernet Sauvignon (or order them online) and you will be treating your own family and friends to one of the most authentic, handcrafted wines you will ever have the benefit of tasting. Words alone can't describe the difference. You must sample the wine to truly understand what I speak of here.

A recent news clip captures the spirit of the place: Heard it through the Grapevine.

Lynda Howitt
Lynda Howitt
SS3 Sea 1  by Lynda Howitt
Lynda Howitt explores the intuitive expression of
the coastal landscape.
It's a refined alchemy of
reality and imagination
in its simplicity.

Her lifelong love for the ocean radiates a compelling warmth. There is a sense of weightlessness and light that embodies each piece
she creates.

The sea and sky are interwoven. Barely distinguishable, Lynda has less interest in depicting specifics than in evoking a sense of dream-like emotion.

A particular fascination with the inner world of vision and feeling, Howitt aims for her work to be comforting and beautiful, resonating with and reflecting our own inner peace and beauty. Her lyrical and spontaneous interpretations beckon the viewer to take a reflective journey inwards.

"The tradition of Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting can be seen in Howitt's work. The sense of chromatic nuance, subtle gesture and lyricism makes her compositions exhilarating. There is an openness to them that creates an extraordinary resonance."

-Byron Coleman, Gallery & Studio Magazine

Cathy Locke
Olivia Standing
In her newest Torso Series,
artist Cathy Locke
creates an on going series of
figural paintings.

In this series, Locke experiments with
color palettes and unique color pairing.

Her brushwork is bold and expressive.
She works on mylar which really supports
the use of her expressive brushwork.
Some of these figurative paintings start as graphite drawings, and with some,
oil paint has been added.

Others are all oil painted onto the mylar. Once the mylar paintings are dry, the surface is hard enough that they do not need to be protected behind glass.

Locke's figurative paintings on mylar are very unique.
Because they are painted on a translucent surface,
they can be backlit, hang as a scroll or framed like a traditional oil painting.
Sarah Truman
Subterranean Cave
Subterranean Cave

Sarah Truman enjoys working in a variety of genres and mediums.

As a portrait artist, Sarah likes to infuse each of her subjects with a feeling of nostalgia, evoking the cherished memories of by-gone days and personalizing each portrait to fit the appropriate occasion or celebration for a special gift!

In her more recent works, Sarah experiments with encaustic pictures (right) a method whereby she applies wax medium in layers, creating the desired images using a variety of techniques, thereby allowing the images to spontaneously emerge from the wax offering a somewhat modernistic and mystical effect.

Sarah is also a skilled illustrator, readily available for print, advertising and commercial commissions.
Miami Arts Week
Headed to Miami next week for Miami Arts Week, a week filled with the wide range of mostly contemporary art shows attracting the best and the brightest art stars, galleries, fair producers, collectors, dealers, arts enthusiasts and media, as well as a wide range of artistic talent from emerging and mid-career to top-level and those on their way to the top...

Looking forward to shopping the shows for new talent, galleries and opportunities as well as networking with many of the creative forces that converge there during this week. Not a bad climate to be escaping to for a few days of sunshine either.

Look for my reports and images in future Facebook posts, blogs and newsletters... if you are able to make the trip, stop by the Artisan Direct, Ltd. & the Jayson Samuel Gallery booths at Red Dot to see the works of many of the artists featured in The Artist Showcase and pick up a copy of the publication.

Hope to see you there!
