Greetings!

"Keep it simple." I was a freshman in high school when I first heard that phrase from my basketball coach who was helping me improve my foul shot. Little did I know it would follow me in business. It's a simple phrase with a clear message that can have a large impact.

In this issue, I present a couple of simple tactics you may want to consider making part of your own communications strategy. Plus, a few trends in digital marketing to get you brainstorming further.

Keep it simple.

Best,

The Online Media Room: Why it needs to be part of any communications strategy
According to a recent Norman/Nielsen study, "99 percent of journalists start their research for an article by going online. Yet they could find answers to only 68 percent of their questions across a range of business websites."

It begs the question: Why don't more companies and organizations have an online media room as part of its communications strategy to help journalists find relevant information on its company and industry? Read more...

Speed Beats Perfection: Digital marketing trends
I recently attended an event and heard Mark J. Marinacci of Google give a presentation on "5 Trends for Digital Marketing." Aside from my envy of him being at Wrigley Field the day before for the Cubs home opener, he imparted a simple, clear message: "Speed beats perfection." His point: get your online marketing campaign going instead of waiting six months for approvals and making it look pretty. The beauty of online is it can be changed, tweaked or taken down-fast. Here are his five trends:
  1. Redefine Your Notion of Fast
  2. Get to Know Old Friends
  3. Tap the "Wisdom of Crowds"
  4. Think Like a Publisher
  5. Bet on Data...It Beats Opinion
