Historical Museum Hosts Documentary on Jewish Soliders
On Tuesday, June 14, at 7:30 pm, at the Greensboro Historical Musuem, learn about the sacrifices Jewish soliders made for their beliefs, and how they defended their country. Admission is $6 at the door.
City Pools Open
The Parks and Recreation Department city pools begin a regular weekday schedule on Monday, June 13. Pools are available for public swimming, lap swimming classes, swim teams, and more.
Grimsley and Smith High schools have indoor pools open for public swimming. Outdoor pools include Lindley, Peeler, Warnersville, and Windsor. Other swim facilities include Smith Senior Center Pool for adults ages 55 and older, Bur-Mil Aquatic Center, Barber Park Sprayground, and Hagan Stone Park's Camp Joy Pool. For more information, call

Banned Items Added to Landfill Disposal List
Beginning July 1, the state will add televisions and computer equipment to the list of items banned from landfill disposal. Computer equipment includes laptops, desktops, monitors, video displays, printers, scanners, fax machines, mice, and keyboards. City and Guilford County residents may take these items to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center, 2750 Patterson St. Operating hours are 10 am to 6 pm Wednesdays through Fridays, and 8 am to 2 pm on Saturdays. City hosts public hearing regarding recommended budget
At its meeting on June 7, Greensboro City Council hosted a public hearing on the recommended budget for fiscal year 2011-12. Council is scheduled to vote on the budget during its meeting on June 21. More information about the budget can be found on the City's website.
In other action, Council approved the City's restructured BetterBuildings Program. The program includes a $5 million grant that the City will use to conduct energy audits, provide direct grants to qualified homeowners, and offer financial incentives to assist Greensboro residents and business owners interested in making energy-efficient upgrades and improvements to their property.
Residents seeking more information about BetterBuildings can call the City's Contact Center at 373-CITY (2489) to have their names added to a list to receive full details about the program.

Adult Co-Ed Softball League Registration Underway |
Parks and Recreation Department Offers Adult Softball
Registration for the City's adult co-ed softball league is June 1 through July 1 for players ages 18 and older. Registration fee is $475 per team. Teams must register and submit league fees no later than Friday, July 1. Registration takes place weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm at the Parks and Recreation Athletics' Office, 501 Yanceyville St.
Teams may select to participate in either the Wood Bat Co-Ed League that plays on Tuesday and Thursday nights, or the Traditional Co-Ed Bat League that plays on Monday and Wednesday nights or Tuesday and Thursday nights. League play consists of 12 regular season games, followed by a single elimination tournament.
Individual players interested in being placed on a team may contact Paula Boykin at 373-2946. A mandatory organizational meeting is scheduled for 6:30 pm Monday, July 11, at Lindley Recreation Center, 2907 Springwood Dr.

| Curb Market Hosts Veggie Day June 18 |
Greensboro Farmers' Curb Market Showcases Farm-Fresh Produce
Local vegetables are now in season and available at the Greensboro Farmers' Curb Market. On Saturday, June 18, from 6 am to 12 noon. Selet fresh, locally grown vegetables from area farmers and sample a special dish during the market's Chef Showcase. Parking and admission are free.
The market is located at 501 Yanceyville St., across from War Memorial Stadium.

| Summer Playground Programs Begin June 20 |
Free neighborhood playground programs begin at seven sites
Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department will operate free summer neighborhood playground programs for children ages 5-15 at seven sites beginning June 20. The programs run Mondays through Fridays from 9 am to 5 pm, weather permitting, through August 5. No sessions will be held on Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
Each week children will enjoy supervised activities such as sports, games, arts, crafts, and special events. To participate, children must have completed kindergarten. Free lunches will be provided at all sites.

Recreation Center Summer Camps Underway |
Summer Day camps open in Guilford County
The Parks and Recreation Department offers summer day camps at 10 local recreation centers for children ages 5-12. Camps start June 13 and run through August 12, operating from 7:30 am to 6 pm Mondays through Fridays.
To participate, children must have completed kindergarten. Each week, campers will enjoy arts, crafts, sports, games, outdoor education, field trips, and more.
Registration is $70 a week per child at the following centers: Brown, Craft, Leonard, Lewis, Lindley, and Trotter. The cost is $60 a week per child at Glenwood, Peeler, Warnersville, and Windsor centers.
The centers offer a reduced-fee program based on a family's qualification for the free and reduced lunch program offered by Guilford County Schools. A child on the free lunch program at school gets a 90 percent fee reduction for the summer day camp. A child on the reduced lunch program gets a 70 percent fee reduction for the summer day camp.
