City Council Action Wrap-Up
Council approves construction of new club at the Greensboro Coliseum.

At it's meeting on Tuesday, September 21, Greensboro City Council approved construction of the Schiffman Diamond Club at Greensboro Coliseum. Shiffmans has purchased a five-year sponsorship of the Coliseum club, which will fund the construction. The new club will offer new arena viewing platforms and a conveniently located luxury club to which membership will be required, generating additional revenue for the Coliseum.

Council delayed the approval of a $5 million federal grant to be used for home weatherization and energy conservation projects. Members expressed apprehension about putting loan burdens on elderly homeowners. Council tabled the item until its October 5 meeting.

Also, Council agreed to the schedule proposed by City Manager Rashad Young for review and consideration of the various proposals for the energy conversion project being considered for the White Street Landfill. The process as scheduled will take about seven months.

And finally, Council accepted a check from Greensboro Beautiful in the amount of $2.4 million, representing financial, volunteer and other contributions made by the organization in support of the Gateway Gardens project. The project is under construction near Barber Park on E. Lee Street.
