City's Water Continues to Meet All Regulations
By now, you should have received the annual water quality report, the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), that shows the City's drinking water continues to meet all state and federal regulations. The report was prepared in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency's 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act amendments, which mandates that all municipal water supplies provide a CCR to their customers for each calendar year by July 1, 2010. Responsibility to Shift for Unpaid Water Bills
Effective July 1, rental properties where the water account is held in the tenant's name will no longer be eligible to have a lien placed on them. Tenants will be solely responsible for unpaid water bills when the account is in their name. Read more.

| City Council Action Wrap-Up | Council adopts FY 2010-11 budget.
At its June 15 meeting, Greensboro City Council approved a $423 million budget with a quarter-cent property tax decrease and a 6 percent water rate increase, among other fee increases that will go into effect July 1. Browse through sections of the proposed budget.

| City Officials Go on Neighborhood Walking Tours | Tours give City's executive team residents' on their neighborhood.
 City Manager Rashad Young and other members of the City's executive team are hitting the streets this month to tour neighborhoods in each of the five City Council districts to get residents' views on their communities. The walks are part of a new City pilot project called the Neighborhood Walks Program that aims to provide opportunities for community leaders and residents to discuss issues that are important to them with the City's executive team. The walks are planned to take place twice annually.
The next walking tour will take place
Monday, June 28, at 5:30 pm in the Meadowoods neighborhood (District 5). Tours for Fisher Park (District 3) and Lindley Park (District 4) are being rescheduled to a date in the near future.
Each tour will last two hours with breaks for refreshments and discussion. Route details will be released prior to each walking tour. |
| Changes to Trash Collection Schedule Coming Soon | | Changes go into effect in August.
Beginning the week of August 9, the City will change trash and recycling collection service days for some residential customers in order to make services more efficient. As a result of these changes, some residents will have a new trash collection day and/or recycling collection week. All residents - whether or not their service day changes - will receive a postcard in July that identifies their collection day and recycling week.
Also, beginning August 9, residential bulk waste will be collected every other week, instead of weekly. Residents' bulk waste will be collected the same week as their recycling collection.

| City Seeks Public Input on Search for Planning and Community Development Director | | Director will be head of newly merged Planning and Housing & Community Development departments.
The City of Greensboro is beginning a national search for a director of the newly merged Planning Department and Housing & Community Development Department. The City will hold a public meeting on Thursday, June 24, from 7-8:30 pm to get input from residents on the evaluation criteria that will be used to screen potential candidates. The meeting will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum's Special Events Center, 1921 W. Lee St.
The two departments, now known as the Planning and Community Development Department, were merged to optimize City resources, while improving efficiency and service delivery in the areas of land-use planning and community building.
"The merged departments will not only help streamline the process for new development and planning activities, but will allow for additional focus on neighborhood enforcement issues," said City Manager Rashad Young. "We're looking for residents' input to help us find the right candidate to fit the needs of our community." |

Gillespie Golf Course recently unveiled the new First Tee of the Triad practice facility and classroom. First Tee of the Triad, the Joseph M. Bryan Foundation and the Parks & Recreation Department partnered to open this new facility that offers young people who would not usually have access to golf the opportunity to learn the sport. Gillespie Golf Course is located at 306 E. Florida St. |
