Business Process Mapping

Do you know and really understand the processes that are performed within your organization? Business process mapping enables key stakeholders, users, and business analysts in the course of one or more meetings to white board existing processes and to achieve the following results. Upon completion of the "To Be" implementation the organization will realize substantial improvement in their business processes both inside and outside of IFS. The whole process provides solid information that you need to document your existing processes and provides a springboard to involve your entire organization. This provides the maximum utilization of the investment of your IFS ERP software systems.

In this article, Ken Burt describes the process used to get there and the gains you are likely to see as a result.

Spotlight Activity Arrows Oracle External Tables
by Alan Clark

Don't Import Data, Just Read It

Every company has data stuck in spreadsheets or data files that needs to be loaded into the database. This data might be static or it may change every day. There might only be a few rows or thousands, but how do you access the data without first creating a table and loading the data? If you import the data you'll need the help of your DBA. They'll spend time reviewing the data, creating a table, putting a loader script together, and then allocating space for the data. If you use ODBC, there will be locking issues or compatibility issues with different data types. If you use Oracle APEX you might already have solved this problem (see my November 2008 article).
A quick and clean solution is to use Oracle external tables. In this article, Alan Clark discusses how to access data files by using external tables.

Jungle Rules:  The ERP Survival Guide

For our readers who have managed the implementation of a new ERP system from beginning to end (or an upgrade for that matter), you will probably agree, it is a "Jungle" out there....and no one said it was going to be easy! In this edition of "The Edge" we are pleased to provide you your own personal copy of "The Jungle Book:  ERP Survival Guide!" It is required reading and study by all eNSYNC implementation consultants, and we like to share these Jungle Rules with all new customers.

Your expedition should begin with an understanding of the "Laws of the Jungle," the five crucial factors that most influence the  implementation and management of a successful enterprise-wide system. Some are internal, some external. Some are within your control, and some may require a major change in the dynamics of your organization.

They're important to consider and understand at a strategic planning or needs assessment stage before a system decision is made, an implementation time table agreed to, systems modifications called for, or training scheduled.

These five crucial factors impact the implementation and management of a new ERP system. Together they have the power to make the project succeed. Miss any, and it may fail:
  • MANAGEMENT EXPECTATIONS
  • SOFTWARE
  • TALENTS, TIME AND MONEY
  • USERS' EXPECTATIONS AND SATISFACTION
  • INFORMATION BASES
To further explore each of these crucial factors and understand how to best deal with them to insure a successful IFS implementation or upgrade......read further from the following link, which will fully explain Jungle Rules!  With the "Laws of the Jungle" understood, your expedition should have a very successful outcome!

Happy Trails!

Sincerely,

Roger Resley

Richrdson/Canbra Foods implements ScanWorks from eNSYNC

RichardsonLogoCanbaraFoodsLogoSpread

Formally known as Canbra Foods, Richardson Oilseed Processing in Alberta was the first company in the world to market canola oil, and currently is one of Canada's largest oilseed crushing, processing, and packaging operations.

Raw material tracking and the issuing of that material to the shop floor is a concern for all process manufacturers. Richardson/Canbra makes extensive use of lot numbers throughout the plant and accurate and timely material tracking and reporting from the shop floor were major objectives of the project. Canbra turned to eNSYNC solutions for their in-depth knowledge of the distribution and manufacturing components of IFS and their "out of the box" bar code solution for IFS: ScanWorks.
