Your Next IFS Project!

I have been involved in many scenarios where companies have said "If only we had known ..." when they attempt to move forward with a project only to find that previous work did not consider the longer term plan and they have had to revisit previously implemented areas.

As you embark on an initial IFS implementation, adding a new acquisition into your existing system, or an expansion of current use, good planning is the key to success. It starts with assigning a project manager, internally or one from outside, defining the constraints, providing a well-defined scope, establishing a realistic timeline, and assigning qualified resources. Only then, with this information in hand, develop a project plan.

When to Pull the Trigger

Database triggers can be very efficient and powerful tools to use, but they also can get your application into deep trouble if not used properly. For this month's article Alan Clark, eNSYNC's Vice President of Managed Services, discuss what triggers are, how to create them, and how they can best be used with IFS.

In this article, Alan discusses where to use and where not to use triggers, guidelines for using and designing triggers, what are the various types, restrictions on using each type, and even provides helpful syntax for each of several triggers. Nucor Steel Logo
Nucor Steel - Texas Chooses ScanWorks for Maintenance Department
ScanWorks Logo

With eleven bar mill plants and millions invested in capital equipment, maximum up time is critical to Nucor Steel's overall performance and profitability. Therefore maintenance and repair represent critical functions to their operations. With planned shutdowns twice a year, their maintenance repairs during these down weeks run many thousands of dollars. To get back up as quickly as possible, Nucor plants schedule multiple crews in the mill during these maintenance downtimes, and the materials required are rapidly consumed from the maintenance warehouse. They must make these repairs quickly and accurately. The amount of equipment issued and data recorded for these repairs are enormous. This need is what drove the decision to invest in ScanWorks bar code data collection.
