Street Law: a Civil Rights Forum Saturday, September 25th, 9:30am sign-in, 10:00am to Noon event What is a civil rights abuse? If your civil rights have been abused, what do you do? Diana Clark, head of the NAACP Legal Redress Committee, has invited experts to fill a panel of experts to talk about what your civil rights are in Texas and what you can do when you feel you've been wronged. The emphasis for this forum will be on 4th Amendment concerns about unreasonable searches and seizures. The panel will be taking questions and offering very preliminary advice for what can be very complicated situations.

The Texas Discovery Gardens is a year-round organic urban oasis filled with natural wonders for visitors of all ages, including a the brand new Rosine Smith Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium. Meander down the canopy walkway and see hundreds of free-flying tropical butterflies and our collection of tropical plants. Unify South Dallas - Monthly Meeting Saturday, September 11th, sign-in at 9:30am - meeting begins at 10:00am There have been new developments in how the S.M. Wright Freeway will be reworked as part of a larger transportation plan for Dallas. Come to the meeting to find out more about how that is starting to happen. Also, learn more about what Unify South Dallas is doing to try to guide the redevelopment of S.M. Wright Freeway so that the affected neighborhood is truly reunited again in a way that hopefully sets the stage for more economic development there. FREE Water-Wise Landscape Seminars Saturday, September 11, 2010, 9:00am to 5:00pm Sponsored by: Dallas Water Utilities, City of Dallas Stormwater Management, and Mountain View College. Plan to attend one or both of our free seminars. Landscape designer and author Bonnie Reese will be the speaker at both sessions. The first 100 attendees at each session will receive a copy of Ms. Reese's book, "Common-Sense Landscaping." Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade / Dallas Pride Festival at Lee Park Sunday, September 19th, Parade start: 2:00pm Dallas Pride weekend offers numerous events across the city. The highlight of the weekend is the annual Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade. Now in its 27th year, the parade is expecting to include nearly 2,000 marching participants and draw more than 40,000 spectators from across the nation and around the world. Immediately following the parade will be the Pride Festival at Lee Park. For more information and a schedule of events, please visit www.dallasprideparade.com Like many gay pride celebrations, Dallas Pride roots back to the late 70s when up to 300 men and women marched through downtown Dallas waving flags and shouting gay rights slogans. This year, grand marshals of the Parade will include Erin Moore, known for her work with the Dallas Stonewall Democrats organization, and Paul Lewis, the long-time organizer of the Parade who also worked with Alan Ross for many years. Just as it has for the past 27 years, the Parade will begin at Wycliff Avenue at 2 p.m. and march down Cedar Springs Road to Robert E. Lee Park. The celebration will continue with a festival that includes vendor booths, live music performances and more. South Side on Lamar is on South Lamar Street between Belleview Street and Arnold Street. The Progressive Center is located on the ground floor "Artists Quarter" next door to the Janette Kennedy Gallery.

Free parking for event guests is available in the restaurant parking lot on the northeast corner of Belleview and Lamar. Paid parking is available in the lot behind Bill's Records and Poor David's Pub.
We encourage you to carpool or ride DART Rail to the event: either the Red or Blue line to the Cedars Station, which is just down the street from South Side on Lamar.
