Dear Progressives,
I can't recommend highly enough that we get solid, smart progressives from North Texas to participate in the nationwide AmericaSpeaks event happening in a couple of weeks. Of the 20+ sites that this national program where this occurring, Dallas is one of the six large-scale sites where more voices will be heard. Attendance slots are being held for for people across the spectrum of political leanings, so there's room for you, my fellow progressives. There will ADA access, along with ASL and Spanish translators provided on request. If you think that this is just some staged exercise that will be completely ignored, think again. A massive report will be compiled from this nationwide event and submitted to the President's National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. I know that Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson and other congressional representatives have reached out to their communities and asked that we take this seriously. Our representatives know that there are more hard choices that are going to be made over the next few years. They are eagerly looking to have as many creative ideas as possible and know in detail what people are prepared for in this current era of belt-tightening. This is a unique opportunity for you to express yourself, to have a dialogue with contrasting viewpoints, and to be a special participant in this national conversation. Please check out the details below and at www.americaspeaks.org and strongly consider signing up. And tell a friend!Be Well and Be Progressive,

Unify South Dallas (USD) - Day of Action Meeting Saturday, June 12th, 10:00am to Noon At least four times, City Councilwoman Carolyn Davis has refused, ignored or ducked an invitation from USD to discuss the controversial rebuilding of S.M. Wright Freeway. Ms. Davis works for the people of South Dallas, and we have a right - a duty, even - to hold her accountable for failing to engage in a dialogue with us about issues affecting our lives. We will meet at the Eban Village Community Center to initiate actions designed to make her accountable. The Steering Committee has some ideas for how to do that, and we'll put those ideas in action on Saturday. We also welcome any and all ideas from you, the members and community leaders who have made Unify South Dallas a strong, clear voice for progress in our community. For more info, check this page.
