Dear Progressives,

Coffee Party logo
Did you catch any of the coverage of the "Coffee Party" events around the county this weekend? WFAA in Dallas had some coverage of the event I attended (link). I can personally attest that the meeting I went to had little partisan shillery, plenty of disappointment for both Dems and Repubs, renewed optimism that a diverse group of adults can have a reasonable discourse, and no requirement to imbibe any particular beverage. In fact, when people from across the conservative/liberal spectrum indulged in little bits of habitual partisan language, we chided each other pleasantly and found more accurate language for the discussion.

The "Coffee Party" is still a new group - it didn't exist a few weeks ago. However, it could come to represent a great opportunity for people to enter (or re-enter) our political process as a engaged citizen. For those of you who have seen the coverage but want to know more, here's a couple of links:

We may be hosting a meeting at South Side on Lamar on Saturday, March 27th, in the afternoon but that hasn't been settled yet. I'll send out a post updating you when I know for sure.

Be Well, and Be Progressive!

Events at The Progressive Center:

Legacy of Success Foundation General Meeting
Sunday, March 21st, 6:00pm to 9:00pm
The Progressive Center is welcoming a relatively new organization in our space, perhaps for some time to come. Legacy of Success Foundation (LOSF) is a business and cultural organization that was formed to bring the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender (LGBT) community of color together. LOSF provides scholarships to local LGBT individuals, holds monthly meetings to discuss LGBT issues with an emphasis on people of color and provide fellowship, and holds monthly social mixers. While they are reorganizing their group and web presence, you will find them here at our South Side on Lamar space every third Sunday, and on their Facebook page.
