Dear Progressives,

Gilley's Party HugThis will be our last 2009 email about events at the Progressive Center of Texas, but have no fear - 2010 is just a few weeks away and we'll be charging in at full speed! As we mentioned last time, we're developing new programming over the holidays that will unfold in the latter half of January. We're chomping at the bit to share it all with you, but this is a time to focus on hopefully joyful reflection and spending time with loved ones. So much has happened over the past 2 years in North Texas, and there's so much to come just around the corner. It's time to hug on the special people in your life, share stories over hot beverages, and indulge in random acts of kindness. Despite the hardships and chaos in the world right now that touches all of us, it's a good time to appreciate being alive to see the first decade of our 21st century history unfold. We wish the best for you and yours, in between hugs. We'll write again soon!

Meanwhile, some of you need to pencil in a few minutes for Tuesday, December 8th, to vote in the runoff elections for the DISD Board of Trustees races in Districts 3 and 9. www.DalCoElections.org has the basic information you need to know who's running and whether you are in those Districts, and the League of Women Voters Dallas website, www.lwvdallas.org , still has their voter guide for the original November 3rd election if you need some background information on the candidates.

We have posted 3 new articles on our web page in past couple of weeks at www.ProgressiveCenterOfTexas.org along with a new photo on our "Key People" page of our volunteer team (click on it to enlarge) who have been invaluable in our nine months of existence - check 'em out!

Be Well, and Be Progressive!

Special Friend of Progressive Center Events:

In the Spirit of Giving
Every day until Wednesday, December 23rd, 4:00pm to 7:00pm
In the old ObamaDallas space in South Side on Lamar, a gift shop will be open every day from 4 pm to 7 pm until December 23rd.  For sale at deep discounts are Christmas ornaments, Barbie collectibles, Simpson collectibles, Spawn figures, hot wheels and more plush toys than you can count.  Michael, who looks like Santa on vacation, will be there to answer your questions. The proceeds of the sale go to a deceased friend's granddaughter's education fund.

Michael is determined to provide every toy police squad car a child's plush toy to use when needed. He says, "Anybody who wants to give gifts to children can bring in ten stockings and we'll fill them with a good toy and lots of stocking stuffers for any modest donation or FREE."

Can't beat that.
