Updated with added sign-up link for the legal clinic, fixed link to election info, and an additional progressive event this weekend.
Dear Progressives, It was a fantastic turnout on Monday for the Dallas stop of the Organizing For America bus tour for health care reform. We were happy to make the call to Gilley's to arrange an indoor space away from the rain for the hundreds of people who came down to show their support. It feels like we've been talking about this forever, but it has been the same way for all profound, positive change in America: Abolition of Slavery, Sherman Anti-Trust Act, Women's Suffrage, Civil Rights, Social Security, Medicare... Just a little while longer, folks!
FYI: in Dallas, the special election for DISD Board of Trustees we're having (because the Board illegally suspended their elections in May) is starting next month. Early voting is October 19 - 30, with Election Day on November 3rd. Show your appreciation to the DISD Board of Trustees for this bewildering addition to the bills we pay for with our taxes by voting, why don't you? You'll be glad you did! The Dallas chapter of the League of Women Voters has some info about this election at http://www.lwvdallas.org/election_info.html

You are never too young or too old to draft a will, and now you can do so at a free legal clinic featuring attorneys Cass Callaway, Tina Yoo, Chris Wilmoth, Tonya Parker with special guest Judge Mark Greenberg. This legal clinic should be of special interest to single mothers. Without a will, the decisions of a probate court could determine how your estate is distributed and who will take care of your children. Come out, take an important first step to getting a will, learn about power of attorney and other legal issues.
