Dear Progressive Center Of Texas,
I wanted to write to try to gain support and hopefully some help
in moving forward an idea that I have. To support the push for health
care reform I would like to organize a two fold campaign at the grass
roots level:
-
Encourage everyone to send a Band-Aid to their member of
congress asking them to pass healthcare reform as soon as possible.
- Organize rallies in September around the country starting with
North Texas to support the call to pass comprehensive healthcare
reform.
I am sure that I do not have to go over the litany of reasons why
healthcare reform is important to pass. As measures become more and
more bogged down in congress I hope to start a true grass roots
movement that will give voice the overwhelming desire for true
healthcare reform now. The best place for this voice to start is here
in North Texas. We live in a state that has the highest rate of
uninsured people and we live in the area that has the highest cost
for healthcare in the country. We can begin a nation wide
mobilization to support this important reform.
Please help me with this. I need advice on how to get things
started and the organization of things. I would propose Sept. 12 as
the date for the rally here in Dallas at City Hall Plaza. This is
close enough to encourage DART utilization and a Saturday will allow
more people to attend this important event.
Please let me know if you would be willing to help in this with
your support and advice on how to organize this event. I look forward
to your help and I hope that we can provide a forum for all of us to
voice our support for this important reform.

Progressive Center response: YES! This idea is clever, tangible,
and manageable. I see that OFA-NT has already pushed your idea out to
their list. We're joining in on this innovative awareness idea that
has literally come from the man on the street. We'll bat around the
logistics for a rally - details to come soon... Thanks Glynn!

Urban
Environmentalism: Sharing Sustainable Progress Friday, July 31st
6:30pm (come early!) Houston
Mayor Bill White and Laura
Aune,
Trade Commissioner, Canadian Consulate General - Dallas are our
honored guests and speakers.
Mayor
White,
former U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy, is designated one of
America's "Greenest Mayors." He made Houston the nation's
leading purchaser of renewable energy and cut energy consumption by
6% during double digit economic growth. Mrs.
Aune has
a mission to see Dallas reduce auto emissions by developing walkable
and affordable neighborhoods. She recently returned from guiding a
delegation from Dallas including Mayor Tom Leppert to explore
Toronto's best case walkable neighborhoods. The
DFW area began to shift to more sustainable growth years ago, but we
can always use fresh perspectives and solutions so that our
continuing population boom doesn't overwhelm us financially or
environmentally. Bring your questions!
