You are cordially invited to attend the
2009 Virginia Arbor Day Ceremony
on the Capitol Square grounds
at 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 24

Help promote the original natural carbon filter and air conditioner - living plants!

Governor Tim Kaine has issued a proclamation designating Friday, April 24, 2009 as Virginia Arbor Day.  The date was changed by the 2005 General Assembly to the last Friday in April to coincide with the National Arbor Day.

In honor of this day, The Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association (VNLA), representing the Virginia Green Industry Council (VGIC), has donated and is planting a Lacebark Elm tree and a Kousa Chinese Dogwood on the Capitol Square grounds in front of the Washington Building on the southeast corner of the Square.  The trees were provided by Nonesuch Nursery, Pamplin, VA and Bremo Trees, Bremo Bluffs, VA, respectively.
Location: Meet near the front of the Washington Building.

Parking No parking is allowed on Capitol Square itself. You can also try the St. Paul's Church underground lot accessed from 8th St. between Grace and Franklin streets, or the new surface lot at 7th and Grace Streets. Both are pay parking scenarios. Metered street parking along Grace or Broad streets is catch as catch can.

Below is the Agenda for the event:

11:30 a.m. Welcome: Virginia Green Industry Council Introduction - Lin Diacont, President of the VGIC What/Why the VGIC

Duane Shumaker, President, Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association - Reasons for Arbor Day Celebrations and the Benefit of trees

Arbor Day Tree Proclamation and Presentation to the Commonwealth - Mark Maslow, VNLA Public Relations Chair

Please RSVP, and feel free to contact the VNLA/VGIC office if you need additional information.

Sincerely,

Jeff Miller, Exec. Dir.
