FQBA certainly hopes this e-mail reaches all of you well and safe and back up and running following Hurricane Isaac.

We thank all at the city for the constant reporting throughout the storm.  Another big thank you is also in order for all of the workers hustling to regain normalcy post storm in a timely fashion.

Please note City Hall will be closed until Tuesday.  If you have a non-emergency, call 311.  911 should be used for emergencies only.

Dear Members,

As the summer season finishes up we seem to be entering not only a busier season, but the Get-ready-for-Super Bowl season. The streets in the Quarter are under repair as part of the federally funded program, with management by Paths to Progress. The Paths organization addressed the August Lunch forum to discuss the overview and how updates are shared with the business community. Please watch for the progress alerts that let you know which blocks of which streets have either sidewalk or street repair underway. Questions specific to your business can be called in to them at any time. Contact information is available on the FQBA website.

Graffiti is STILL a problem in the Quarter. We have had two individuals working off Community Service time for Graffiti violations, but there is no way they can keep up with the proliferation of tagging, stickers and all forms of defacement. Please alert the FQBA of new sites on public property that we can address with these workers. Watch for another VC-GAP work day in the Quarter. If enough members volunteer we can make a difference.

Nominations for FQBA Board 2012 positions are open. Nomination forms are on FQBA.com. All forms should be submitted by 5:00pm on October 18th. The nomination committee will review and make recommendations to the board in November. New Board members are inducted in January. If you, or someone you know, would like to give their time to our efforts in strengthening business in the French Quarter and improving the quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors - We want you.

Your President,

Adrienne Thomas

(click on committee member's names to email them directly)

If you planned to get more involved with the Association, the best way to do that is join a committee.  Each committee has a different focus and amount of time required.  Touch base with the committee chair to find out more.

Marketing Committee
Chair: Frank Stansbury

We've finished another year of the "Get Away in the Vieux Carre" campaign.  The committee will meet in the coming week to discuss a "Shop Away in the Vieux Carre" campaign for the holidays.  Let us know your ideas and how you would like to participate.

Public Relations & Events Committee

Chair: Christine Sory

Our social media has taken off, and we are glad to see so many people interested in FQBA musings.

We have one more lunch forum this year. It will be  October 18th at the Hotel Monteleone, hope to see you all there.  We will be hearing about the Theater renovations taking place at the Le Petit Theater and the Saenger.

Vieux Carre - Graffiti Abatement Program Committee
Chair: Gene Sausse

The VC-GAP committee is working on grant writing and finding funding for long term and sustainable eradication options.  The courts are now working with us to assign perpetrators to work community service hours with our committee.  You will be seeing some big changes here soon.  If you have concerns or need help with and graffiti situation, please do not hesitate to contact us at graffiti@fqba.org.

Membership Committee

Co-Chairs: Nancy Tusa & CE Adler

Check out the cool new "adds" to the website. As members, you can now add "Hot Deals" and "Job Postings" to the website. It's simple, just sign in with your member account and add your details.

We have a number of valuable member benefit partners with Office Depot & TSYS Merchant Solutions, details are listed below in the newsletter.

Governmental Affairs Committee

Chair: Jeremy DeBlieux
The Government Affairs Committee continues to monitor the Paths 2Progress work on FQ streets and sidewalks as well as the Iberville Housing Development re-development plan.  In addition, the committee continues to work with the FQMD on several issues, such as sanitation, noise and enforcement on behalf of our membership.

You are also welcome to contact Annie@fqba.org with any suggestions of new committees or ideas for the association to consider.

Southern Decadence
Wednesday, August 29th - Monday, September 3rd

What began as a little costume party is now a world-famous gay celebration. In the 40th year, it has mushroomed from a small gathering of friends to a Labor Day weekend tradition, attracting over 110,000 participants, predominantly gay and lesbian, and generating almost $125 million in tourist revenue.  This annual economic impact ranks it among the city's top five tourist events.

Riverwalk Update

In July, The Howard Hughes Corporation announced a $70 million redevelopment of Riverwalk Marketplace into an upscale outlet mall - The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk. As the first downtown outlet center in the nation, The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk will showcase established national retailers who are new to Louisiana, New Orleans and the Gulf region in addition to some local retail, dining and entertainment options. Additionally, The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk will also feature an expanded footprint of 50,000 square feet to an approximate total of 250,000 square feet. Construction will begin later in 2012 and the property is expected to reopen in late 2013.

The department of sanitation has created a flyer in hopes to inform and garner more compliance. If we all work together, we can improve the cleanliness of the French Quarter and DDD. If you have any questions, please contact us at Sanitation@nola.gov.

The 4th Annual "Get Away in the Vieux Carre"
Summer Campaign
June 1st - August 31st

We've had a great year with the "Get Away" summer campaign.  FQBA made a significant investment in the success of this campaign for 2012.  We do hope you all noticed.  The marketing was spread out across a number of media outlets reaching a greater number of potential French Quarter patrons.  The campaign collected well over 2000 entrants this year.  We'd like to thank Zydeco Media for their amazing support with our social media throughout the campaign.

We'd also like to recognize all of our participants:
