To our members:
With Mardi Gras behind us and the Final Four quickly approaching, I think we all agree that 2012 is getting off to a great start.
As in 2011, your FQBA leadership is working to continue the establishment of better relations between the organizations in the French Quarter, including businesses, residents, and city agencies. We are in need of committee members from the general membership to help our community outreach and make living and doing business here a partnership. Join the Public Relations or Anti-Graffiti committees today to help.
The NOSCAM program that succeeded in driving away the majority of aggressive solicitors from our streets was led by Beverly Fulk, a resident and business person who took it as a personal challenge. She never took "no" for an answer and pulled in people to help her make the legislation happen. Beverly was recognized at the recent Installation Dinner, and if you see Beverly, please thank her. We understand from a board member that some of those recognizable solicitors were actually seen at a Mardi Gras Parade in Jefferson Parish, once again targeting visitors. That news has been shared with the Parish.
Next month we launch into Festival season so let's be ready to greet our guests! See you soon.....
Adrienne Thomas, 2012 President.
PS. Don't forget that this organization runs on your annual dues payments. Please send your check today if you haven't already!

Solving the Parking Problem
PARKING! Can We Do Better for Our Communities and Our Businesses? A symposium on the true costs of parking & new strategies for making parking work Featuring parking expert and innovator Donald Shoup, PhD
Accommodating the automobile requires parking - lots of parking. Providing all this parking has had a profound effect on our communities, literally reshaping them. The cost of providing all this parking, while not always quantifiable, is usually discernible - time spent 'hunting' for a space, disincentive to walk even short distances, and loss of tree canopy and green space.
In dense or popular commercial districts, particularly downtowns, current management of parking is typically a combination of parking meters for curb parking and lots or garages. For decades, cities have charged less per hour for curb parking than for off-street parking (if they charge at all). All the incentives encourage drivers to seek out cheaper curb parking despite a limited supply. The result during busy times is that customers and residents have difficulty finding a space close to their destination when they need it.
Join ULI Louisiana as we hear from parking experts and local leaders on the effects of our current approach to parking and alternatives to managing parking that can help make our cities be better places to live.
Free & Open to the Public Tuesday, March 13th 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. Registration 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Presentations and Q&A

March in the French Market
The French Market will be hopping this spring with special events each weekend, from a new cooking demo series in partnership with Offbeat magazine, to a new student music series at the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park Visitor Center.
The fifth annual Road Food Festival, to be held March 24 & 25th, featuring food vendors showcasing "authentic regional eats" from around the country, moves from its original spot on Royal Street to along French Market Place, across from the French Market. As a nod to the French Market's strong Sicilian roots, the Market will host a one day Saint Joseph's Day celebration on March 18th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring a display of historic photos featuring Sicilian produce vendors at the French Market; children's crafts (crosses made from fava beans will be one item kids can make and take home); Italian music (including accordionist Julie Council, who plays regularly at Andrea's Restaurant); and a talk with Southern Food and Beverage Museum president and director Liz Williams, who will explain St. Joseph's Day Altars.
