WHAT: Call for Volunteers for Graffiti Cleanup

April 5, 2011 New Orleans, LA- During this past summer, the French Quarter Business Association (FQBA), along with other prominent French Quarter groups, implemented an effort dubbed Vieux Carre Graffiti Abatement Program or VC-GAP.
With this initiative the French Quarter community sparked a neighborhood and city wide perspective that the graffiti problem is not as insurmountable as once presumed. It is a real community issue that businesses, activists, residents and volunteers are willing to face head on. Over one hundred volunteers took to the streets over the summer during two separate clean up days. The groups have reconvened and hope the passion is still fiery for those wishing to help eradicate the graffiti plaguing our historic neighborhood and offending our visitors, businesses and residents.
This is a call to action to all those passionate about making the French Quarter graffiti free. We are looking for group leaders and hands on workers to participate in a community wide cleanup on the morning of April 16th. Volunteers will receive a work t-shirt while supplies last and all cleaning products and tools for the cleanup with be provided. We are reaching out to our concerned citizens from the area willing to participate in a "hands-on" positive endeavor toward neighborhood beautification.
Our effort is solely a community, business and citizen-based action plan to eradicate graffiti from the Vieux Carre, and it will hopefully have a ripple effect around the city. Donations to the effort are also graciously appreciated. Everyone can help!
