A letter from the President

First, I would like to welcome all of our new members!  There is truth to the saying "STRENGTH in NUMBERS."   We are proud to represent FQBA members and we work hard to ensure that your voice is heard. So, when I send out an email asking for your input, I truly do want your opinion.  We want to know when you are having a problem or have an issue, but I also encourage you to let us know if you ate at an FQBA member restaurant and loved the GUMBO. Or, maybe you really like the street musician down the street from your store.  In this newsletter you'll notice a "Positively French Quarter" section where we will post a quote from emails received that shed a positive light on anything French Quarter. You can remain anonymous or not.

I would like to thank Councilwoman Kristin Gisleson Palmer for reaching out to FQBA members regarding the upcoming French Quarter "Specialty Pavement Rehabilitation" project. To see the outcome of the comments I received and shared with the Council office and subsequently Public Works office click through below.  When you see the work being done, you can send her a quick note of thanks.

Have a great November!

Shelly

2010 FQBA President

The Holidays
carolsIt's time to start planning!

Join the F.Q.B.A. this season in making the French Quarter festive and inviting for visiting shoppers, diners and revelers.  The French Market Christmas Tree will go up in lights along with the Pontalba Buildings' Decorations on November 18th.  Put your holiday decor up and get ready for an active season!

The New Orleans Tourism and Marketing Corporation (NOTMC) is currently doing a regional advertising campaign including a sweepstakes in partnership with F.Q.B.A. and its participating members.  (click here for more details and register for the sweepstakes)

There's a big shopping day push for December 4th.  Host your friends and regular customers with something a little special... book or artist signings, musicians, trunk shows, treats & libations.

F.Q.B.A. will be offering members co-operative advertising options for the season. Visit the website for more information on what is offered.

Call for musicians!

french quarter festFrench Quarter Festival

April 8-10, 2011

French Quarter Festivals, Inc. (FQFI) is now accepting applications for local musicians interested in performing at the 28th annual French Quarter Festival, to be held April 8, 9 and 10, 2011. Interested performers are encouraged to access the application online at www.fqfi.org.

The 2011 festival will feature over 250 hours of great local music across 18 stages throughout the French Quarter. In 2010, over half a million people attended French Quarter Festival and the event had an economic impact of $316 million.  In 2009, French Quarter Festival was voted 'Best Festival' six times.  French Quarter Festival showcases Louisiana musicians, exclusively, with genres including traditional and contemporary jazz to rhythm and blues, funk, brass band, folk, gospel, rock, reggae, Latin and classical.

Opportunities are available for 'Performance Sponsors'.   The performance sponsor compensates the musicians directly for their French Quarter Festival performance, in return for publicity and marketing benefits offered by French Quarter Festivals, Inc.  If your company or organization is interested in sponsoring a musical act at the festival, please call Marci at 504-522-5730 or email marci@fqfi.org

French Quarter Festival is produced by French Quarter Festivals, Inc., (FQFI) the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, which also produces Satchmo SummerFest and Christmas New Orleans Style

Vieux Carre Commission

Economic Development Proposal

Presented to City Council Budget Hearings October 27th, 2010VCC

The Vieux Carre Commission has presented to the New Orleans City Council an Economic Development proposal.  In this proposal, they stress the necessity to streamline process to apply and obtain occupational licenses and alcoholic beverage permits in the French Quarter.  At this point, we are neither for nor against this proposal.  Since this will directly affect business in the Quarter, FQBA will have a voice in the progression of this proposal. We will keep you updated.

Visit the FQBA website to see a summary of the proposal.
