Firedog Sponsors Radio Show

Firedog Studios is now a technical consultant and sponsor to the "Freedom Road Radio" show hosted by Brother Terry of "Unknown Souldier".

We are lending a helping hand to our clients by showcasing artists that record at the studio on the radio show. We are also doing band interviews and hosting live perfomances that will be played on the station.  It gives our clients another outlet for their music and introduces them to a whole new audience.  Bios, pics, and free downloads are available on Beaten Bones.com. (link below).

Terry states;
"Freedom Road wouldn't be what it is without the love and support we get from our community... and FireDog Studios has proven to be one of our greatest community partners.

We're so thankful to be able to help indie artists by featuring their music
on the show, and for FireDog Studios' help in promoting Freedom Road Radio by recording our "LIVE" segments, as well as helping with pre & post production.  We wouldn't be who we are without them!"

The weekly shows will be available for download soon on the web and we will be taking the videos from the studio performances and posting them on our YouTube page.

Artist Spotlight

We had a special treat a couple of weeks back when the band JPT stopped down for a live studio appearance on the "Freedom Road Radio" show.  JPT is made up of Mooki (lead vocals), Joe "Gigs" Gorgolione (bass & vocals), Ron Leejack (drums) and Eli Endres (guitars).

JPTWe had a blast with the guys in the studio.  We set up everyone together in the live room to capture the performance for the radio show.  No overdubs allowed for these takes!

Ron was the on drums playing with the hot rod sticks.  Going with a minimal approach to micing we had an Audix D6 on the bass drum, an sM-57 on the snare, and two AKG 451's for the overheads.   Mooki and Eli were on acoustic guitar which we recorded direct . Joe was on bass which we split into two signals with a Tech 21 DI box and a small Fender combo.  Mooki's vocals were recorded with a Neumann TLM103 and Joe's vocals were recorded with a BLUE Dragonfly.

We recorded two acoustic songs a cover of Tonic's "If you could only see" and JPT's "One" which you can download

Their new record "The Burning" is out now and JPT has a big show coming up at Starland Ballroom.  Check them out July 30th at the Starland opening up for CandleBox.  We will see you there!  For tickets and info.. Read more.

We will be posting some video of the session on our YouTube page shortly.  (Interns are so darn slow!)

Tech Tips - EQ
EQ
You can EQ in various stages of mixing and recording.  The first place is in the actual recording chain, prior to the sound being printed.  This should be a last resort because once the sound is printed, it maybe difficult to correct it afterwards.  If you have to use EQ, do so conservatively.  If you do not like the tone you are getting, try moving the microphone, or the instrument (performer).  If that doesn't work, maybe try a different microphone or instrument (if available). ..

Thank you all for your continued support.
