Youth Track Web Conference

Join us for the fourth and final session in our 2009/2010 Youth Track Web Conference series! During this web conference, you will learn about:
 
  • Friendships, dating, and marriage
  • How to meet other young people
  • How parents can help us make safe and healthy choices
  • What resources are available to learn more about this topic 
  • And much more!
      
    Youth Track sessions are geared toward young adults (13-30) with developmental disabilities. We encourage teachers to allow their students to participate in these sessions as a class activity. Family members, educators, service providers, and other interested individuals are always welcome to attend the Youth Track web conferences.
The web conference will be held on Tuesday, May 18th, from 
1:00 - 2:00 Mountain Time.

Presenters:
Mary Olson graduated from the University of MT in 2006 with a BA in Economics and Psychology.  She currently works for Summit Independent Living Center as the Peer Advocacy Coordinator, which includes working with youth with disabilities throughout North Western Montana. Some of the programs she co-leads with Mike Beers, also of Summit, include BALLS- Building Advocacy and Learning Leadership Skills, a transitional curriculum taught by youth with disabilities for youth with disabilities, YODA-Youth Opening Doors through Advocacy, which is a social and advocacy group for youth with disabilities aged 13- 30ish, as well as other presentations to all ages on disability history, culture, and laws.  She currently serves on 2 youth committees, one statewide and one for APRIL- Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living, working on getting youth with disabilities together to learn from each other and practice their advocacy skills. Mary also was a staff for MYLF- Montana Youth Leadership Forum in 2009, and as a young adult with an invisible disability, is very excited to share information with other young people and get them involved in the disability rights movement.
 
Mike Beers is the Transitions Coordinator at Summit Independent Living Center in Missoula, Montana.  He has been a delegate and staff at the Montana Youth Leadership Forum since 2001.  Mike was appointed to the President's Task Force on Employment of Adults with Disabilities Youth Advisory Council in 2001. He is a former president (2003-2005) of the Alliance for Disability and Students of the University of Montana (ADSUM), a student disability rights group, and currently serves on the Board for the Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living.
One hour of Montana Office of Public Instruction renewal credit is available and may be requested at registration. (You MUST register and attend the full training to receive OPI credit.)
