Dear Drawing Near friends,
New series of study always keeps me zealous to learn more about God's word. This semester is no exception. From last year where we concentrated on Making Space for God, we continue on this journey with more specificity--Making Space for the Words of Jesus. Just listening to His teaching as we read his words together helps us dig deeper to evaluate our lives and make sure we are growing in our relationship with Jesus Christ.
Jesus told His disciples to seek His kingdom first and all these things would be added. (Matthew 6:33) What are all these things? Read the passage preceding verse 33 to hear Jesus telling His disciples not to worry about the concerns of life---what we wear, the food we eat---all of the things that keep us preoccupied. He is saying, "if you put me first, I will take care of all of your needs." The challenge for most of us is arranging our priorities and "to do" lists so that we stay centered on Him. Some of you reading this note are not a part of this study. Because each class stands on its own, it's not too late to start! You will find the teaching and community will change your life.
So many exciting things are going on this semester: Our gala is November 18, the planning of a Drawing Near cookbook, and our ministry outreach to the community. Jesus told His disciples that the kingdom was at hand and as followers of Jesus Christ it is our responsibility to grow His kingdom. To that end, the board of directors of Drawing Near continues to press toward the goal of raising funds to spread the gospel to the nations. Our plan is to have a national program that uses our study guide resources, DVD's, devotional and soon to be Making Space for God book. We believe that God has called us to take our program to the national level. This requires funding as we step out in faith to pursue the call.
Thanks to each of you and your faithful support through your prayers, giving, and involvement in the activities of the ministry. We will see the kingdom of God draw near to thousands of people. Check out all the ways in this newsletter you can get involved. We need your help.
To God be the glory! Joanne

Drawing Near to God Ministries is partnering with AAFCBD

AAFCBD ministers to "fragile" families with children born to single parents on the Eastside of Charleston. These families do not have the quality of life that affords them the privilege of growing up in a safe and nurturing environment.

Because we are a ministry and not just a bible study, we need to be giving back to the community...not as in obligation, but as a mandate from Jesus who has poured it into our hearts to minister to our community.
On October 21st, representatives from AAFCBD will be attending our Day Class to tell us how we can help them break the cycle of poverty!

What if your dying relative, friend, or spouse told you that he/she had something of great significance to tell you before they died? Would you disregard them? Would you tell them to wait until it was a more convenient time for you? Would you say: " Hold that thought; I'll be right back." I suspect that most of us would stop whatever we are doing to be attentive to the words of our dying friend. 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ hung on the cross. His breathing was labored; His life ebbing and He said these words: Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. (Mark 23:34) and It is finished (John 19:30) Jesus had many things to say as He walked this earth. He told us not to be afraid, to have faith, and to love our enemies. In His last prayer to His Father while on earth, He prayed for unity among believers. But the words of a dying man, a Savior on the cross, were filled with love: Father forgive them. It's not to late to join us for this 9-week, community-wide Bible Study.
