Drawing Near to God Ministry Newsletter October Newsletter
2008 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
Dearest DNG friends, We are all excited to be back in session studying the book of Acts! As a community of believers, we are striving to live out Acts 2:42: They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Similar to the first century church, we have opportunities each week to study the Word and pray together; each month we break bread together at the Taste and See luncheons. Our Taste and See luncheons are based on Psalm 34:8, Taste and See that the Lord is good and they have two purposes: they offer us a time of fellowship outside of class and provide an informal opportunity to invite new people to meet our small group members. Often people come to the luncheon and decide to attend the class, so invite someone to your next luncheon. They are always the first Thursday of the month. But remember you can bring anyone to class anytime! I have prayed earnestly that this year we would each have an expectant heart to meet God in new ways not experienced before--through prayer, small groups, worship or the teaching. Jesus asked His followers this question: ...when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth? (Luke 18:8) He commended faith in His miraculous healings and He is still looking for faith upon His return. The mission of Drawing Near to God ministry is to enable, equip, and empower believers to walk in faith and believe His Word. We want to answer this question that Jesus asked with, "YES, you will find faith because we are seeking You with all of our hearts!" Each month in our DNG e-newsletter, I have highlighted a different area of Drawing Near. The Compassionate Care umbrella extends loving care by coordinating the monthly luncheons and planning our big end-of-the-year Taste and See Luncheon at the church; it involves the greeters who meet you with love and care every week; it keeps facilitators abreast of the needs of DNG members so that we can all work together to give support for spiritual and physical needs. You can be a part of the Compassionate Care umbrella by letting your group leader know about members who need support and encouragement. As we study the early church, let's take note of how believers cared for one another and be determined to follow their example as we seek to live in community with one another. May the Lord be blessed as we humble ourselves before one another and seek to be the community of faith that the Lord seeks upon His return. Love in community together, Joanne

| 3-WEEK MINI COURSE OFFERED IN OCTOBER
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TEARING DOWN THE FENCES OF OFFENSES
Jesus went to his hometown, the people recognized Him as the carpenter's son, the son of a common man. They were offended by his wisdom and miraculous powers because it did not seem natural for a common boy to possess such uncommon power. When Jesus became a man, the Pharisees were offended when He confronted their hypocrisy. Who was this man to come among them and criticize their actions? In the Old Testament, the young shepherd boy David offended his older brothers when he chose to confront the giant! He made them feel foolish and cowardly. Throughout the Bible, Jesus and men and women of all walks of life had to deal with offenses. We are no different today. There are times when we offend others and times when others offend us. If you desire to learn how to deal with offenses according to God's plan, consider attending a three-week Drawing Near to God course, "Tearing Down the Fences of Offenses," beginning Thursday, October 30th. You can register for the course by phone at 843-284-4333.
Complimentary for those already participating in a DNG Course. For those only attending this mini course, the cost is $10.00. |
