Towards the end of June, we had another fellowship cookout, this time at Steve Adkins house in Plano, TX.
Rocky was able to attend this one, and he gave us an update on an interesting partnership opportunity with a halfway house for runaway or foster kids in far northeast Texas. We'll see what opportunities develop there. In June we also had an unexpected blessing. A relative of one of our North Texas HERO Makers liked what he heard about what we were doing so he made a $20,000 donation to HERO Makers. Hallelujah!
Over the summer, Scott Booker helped to put together a softball team with the HERO Makers of North Texas. HERO Makers have been finding other ways to raise funds as well. As just one example, although he's not in North Texas, Bob Snow has been giving talks and travelogues about HERO Makers to various church and community groups in Massachusetts, and has raised almost $1000 from people in his audiences who were moved to donate after hearing his talk. Way to go Bob!
The North Texas team had another fellowship get-together/cookout dinner, around the end of September. We've begun planning for the 2nd trip in January of 2010, as we've got to make sure our recruiting commitments come through. We've got about 30 signed up for the January trip #2 and we expect to be well over 40 when the sign-ups are done. We also partnered with Grace Community Church in Plano, TX and EagleRider Dallas in Irving, TX to sponsor a "Bring Your Bike to
Church" day,

where we invited everyone in the community to bring their motorcycle to Grace Community Church on October 18th, 2009 for fun, fellowship, a ride together, and a cookout dinner, all after church on Sunday. We showed the world that we can have fun together, while working together to fulfill the spirit of James 1:27.
Hopefully all of these fall activities were timed right so we can build publicity for the fall HERO Maker trips and the January 2010 trips. We're even about to begin planning for next year's fundraiser!!
