January MEN'S Trip Sign-up Time!

Three trips to choose from this January

**Men**
Time to get in the game!!!!

We have three men's trips this January:

This first week of three, January 9-16, is for theCoffee Coffeemen from Kansas and their friends.  All three MEN'S Trips will be going to the same location to work on the home at Pilar de Esperanza that was started last January.  This year's trip is from Saturday to Saturday and the arrival airport is McAllen (MFE), TX.  SIGN-UPS END DECEMBER 1ST.  (Currently 17 signed up)

This second week of three, January 16-23, is for the men from Grace CC of North Texas and their friends.  This year's trip is from Saturday to Saturday and the arrival airport is McAllen (MFE), TX.  SIGN-UPS END DECEMBER 1ST.   (Currently 40 signed up)

This third week of three, January 27 to February 3, is for the men from Missouri, Canada, North Texas and all parts, coast to coast, and their friends.  This year's trip is from Wednesday to Wednesday and the arrival airport is McAllen (MFE), TX.  SIGN-UPS END DECEMBER 1ST.  (Currently 6 signed up)

Hope to see more names start filling up these trips as we prepare for a very rewarding and productive January.   As a reminder these trips are not exclusive to the groups listed in them now, if you are from Texas and the first week works best for you then sign up.  Also, if your schedule allows, please consider signing up for week three even if you are geographically in the first two groups.  Our numbers are low week 3 and we need full crews all three weeks.  As always remember, previous work in construction is not required.  All skills are needed and God will use you where He needs you, just be there and let Him work.

Annual Chiefs and Chile (and BBQ) Fundraiser Event

          3rd Annual
   Chief, Chili and BBQ
    November 15, 2009
        2:30 until 6:00
          3:05 Kick off

Yes it's that time of the year again - leaves are falling, cool air, football and some home cooked chili with corn bread.  Indeed - the 3rd annual Southwoods "Chiefs and Chili" event is back again this year Sunday afternoon November 15th.  Bring a friend and join the crowd at Southwoods where we will watch the Chief's on the big screen and sample some fine home cooking - this year not only Chili but rumors have it some smoked meats and other tasty BBQ items to satisfy any hunger you can bring.  Tickets are on-sale in advance or at the door along with door prizes and a planned special half-time guest speaker to motivate us in our relationship with Christ no matter what our current situation may be in life.  For more information contact Keith Kass at Keith.Kass@usfood.com or (913) 620-4154.  Volunteers to help with the event are needed along with your help to spread the word between our KC area Hero Makers church communities as we work to raise much needed funds for our January trips to Mexico.

Fundraising Success

North Texas Fellowship and Fundraiser

Towards the end of June, we had another fellowship cookout, this time at Steve Adkins house in Plano, TX.

Coffee
Rocky was able to attend this one, and he gave us an update on an interesting partnership opportunity with a halfway house for runaway or foster kids in far northeast Texas.  We'll see what opportunities develop there.  In June we also had an unexpected blessing.  A relative of one of our North Texas HERO Makers liked what he heard about what we were doing so he made a $20,000 donation to HERO Makers.  Hallelujah!

Over the summer, Scott Booker helped to put together a softball team with the HERO Makers of North Texas.  HERO Makers have been finding other ways to raise funds as well.  As just one example, although he's not in North Texas, Bob Snow has been giving talks and travelogues about HERO Makers to various church and community groups in Massachusetts, and has raised almost $1000 from people in his audiences who were moved to donate after hearing his talk.  Way to go Bob!

The North Texas team had another fellowship get-together/cookout dinner, around the end of September.  We've begun planning for the 2nd trip in January of 2010, as we've got to make sure our recruiting commitments come through.   We've got about 30 signed up for the January trip #2 and we expect to be well over 40 when the sign-ups are done.  We also partnered with Grace Community Church in Plano, TX and EagleRider Dallas in Irving, TX to sponsor a "Bring Your Bike to
Church" day,
where we invited everyone in the community to bring their motorcycle to Grace Community Church on October 18th, 2009 for fun, fellowship, a ride together, and a cookout dinner, all after church on Sunday.  We showed the world that we can have fun together, while working together to fulfill the spirit of James 1:27.

Hopefully all of these fall activities were timed right so we can build publicity for the fall HERO Maker trips and the January 2010 trips.  We're even about to begin planning for next year's fundraiser!!

Every little bit helps!
