Look What the LORD Has Done!

logo  September Explore Trip!

This trips' goal was to explore needs at children's homes in the area of Reynosa, Mexico.  We had an opportunity to visit 8 other homes besides the 4 homes we are already involved with and wouldn't you know it, the very last one was the one in most need.  We almost had to skip seeing it, but the Lord was gracious and made it happen for us.  More about that home later.  Again, we had a chance to spend a couple of days working on projects at Laredo Stepping Stone and were blessed by our hosts, Rick and Kim Hall. Couples' Trip Nov. '07

One of the things the Lord showed us on the Explore Trip was the  need to have everything possible with us to fix the various plumbing needs in the over-used bathrooms of  Children's Homes, specifically the toilets.  Hence was created the official HERO Head Team Equipment Bag which was filled with a few hundred dollars of gear to be taken with us on all trips.  Remember the home we almost missed on the Explore Trip?  Well, when the couples arrived there we found that just 4 days earlier, the main waterline to one of the homes had been broken due to an errant throw at a critter forced out of the sewer lines because of too much rain water.  Score:  1 busted critter, 1 busted main waterline!  The only building with running water did not have a working toilet, and the building without water needed to have the toilets flushed and working again!  Soon!  The Head Team of Daryl, Dave and Rich, serving the Lord in one  of the worst working conditions around, replaced 3 toilets and refurbished 4 others.  Chuck worked out the main waterline problem and within 36 hours everything was working appropriately again at the Salvation Army's Children's Home.  Praise God He showed us the home in September, instead of us skipping it, and prepared for us the tools and the men to fix the problem on this trip.

We served up a lot of fajitas, hamburgers and hotdogs to children at various homes that week and got to share all of this together with our spouses.

Men's Jan. Trip '08
Forty six men traveled the loop again this year and a book could be written about the many miracles of God that happened during this time.    This was just one of those times when you had to be there to really see faith in action. Our first children's home in Mexico, funded by HERO Makers (and its' blessed donors),  got underway on this trip at Casa Hogar Refugio Internacional.  It was a blessing to see Casa de Irene, Home of (Spanish) Peace (Greek), raised from the ground with the foundation, walls built and stood up, trusses built and hung up, and the roof decked and shingled in such a short period of time.  The pre-trip team spent 4 days preparing the foundation, then we spent 2 1/2 days on the building, POWER Ministry spent 2 days and Highland Meadows Church spent 1 1/2 days working to get this home built.  This was a great project to work on with other ministries and it continues today.  You might have missed this trip, but you can still join us on future trips.  Yes, there is now an extension of the home to accommodate the children of the house parents so as to retain the parents for a longer period of time, and give more stability to the children in need.
 February Adult Trip '08

This team continued working on the home at Refugio, with 9 of our volunteers coming from our partner ministry, Global Dove.  Many eyes were awakened to more of the things of the Lord.  The wrapping and "drying in" of the home was completed, as well as electrical runs and insulation was hung on 70 percent of the walls.
A formal dedication of the home at Refugio occurred on our final day.

Time was spent in prayer at Casa Hogar Pilar de Esperanza.

April Reynosa Trip   4/4-4/10

Please pray for travel mercies as this group of 17 helps get us closer to finishing Casa de Irene.  Lots to do and all skills levels are invited.  Stucco is being applied this week and work is really moving along.  Yes, there is already an addition going on the home and so we are doing some framing again as well as dry-walling the walls of the main house.  Expect a small group and a lot of fun.

Winter with us in Brazil (their winter that is)

That's right, their winter is our summer and it's a great time to beat the heat here.  Temperature runs about mid 70's in the day to low 60's at night.  You will love it!  And you will help this home move forward so that more children can be brought into the orphanage.  Click here for the two trip options.  Hurry!  We need to know if you are interested right now!

Every little bit helps!
