Greetings!
|
September has been a month of fundraisers, and so far it's going swimmingly!
Our calendar contest has turned out to be a TREMENDOUS success! We've received some great pictures along with heartwarming and funny stories about many of the dogs. Voters are trying to outdo each other to see who can raise the most votes. It's turned into quite the competition! Voting ends Tuesday, Sept. 18. Stay tuned!
Our Yankee Candle fundraiser also was a success! Orders have been placed with the company which promises a two-week turnaround for shipping. We should have items in hand by the end of the month, at which point they'll be delivered to all of the buyers. Our homes are going to smell GREAT during the fall and Christmas seasons!
What's next? Our first annual GSP Rescue New England Golf Tournament to be held Oct. 13, 2012, at The Woods of Westminster golf course in Westminster, Mass.
Do you play? Sign up your foursome! Don't play? Come for lunch and hang out with GSP Rescue volunteers and maybe some of our adoptable dogs. What could be a better way to spend a Saturday in October than being outside on a beautiful golf course raising money for our really needy pups? Come join us!! There's lots more information below . . .
And THANK YOU ALL once again for participating, whether it was sending in 1 or 10 dog pictures, buying 1 or 100 votes, purchasing a candle or entering in the golf tournament. True, we get something tangible in return for our money, but we also get something intangible, that feeling of satisfaction that we have directly helped our rescue dogs.
Have a great rest-of-the-month! Celeste,Audrey and Michele

Calendar Contest!
|
Only a few days left for the calendar contest! Have you placed your votes?
We're all looking forward to see who the winners are for the 2013 GSP Rescue New England wall calendar that we know will be full of GSPs that we all know and love! When you turn the page each month, there might be a picture of Mr. Fonda raiding the trash, or a member of the New York 8 who were rescued from a lifetime confined to their kennels, or maybe even one of your own rescued GSPs now living the good life, playing with his buddies, riding on a boat, sitting on a lawn tractor. The picture choices are as diverse as the dogs themselves.
The donation to enter a picture will be $10 with all proceeds going directly to the care and rehoming of our needy dogs.
Hurry! Time's running out!!

Dog Food Recall
| Breeder's Choice Pet Food of Irwindale, Calif., has announced a voluntary dog food recall on Sept. 11 involving one of its products due to possible contamination with Salmonella bacteria.
The recall includes AvoDerm Natural Lamb Meal and Brown Rice Adult Dog Formula in the 26 pound bag only manufactured with Best Before dates of August 28, 2013, August 29, 2013 and August 30, 2013. The company claims it was able to contain the affected product at distribution centers. And it was not delivered to retail outlets. What Products Are Being Recalled? Products with the following UPC codes and Best By dates are being recalled:
Update An updated question and answer page was posted on September 14, 2012 and now includes the following statement: "Until we have completed testing and have the assurance that all products are free of contamination, we will hold all AvoDerm or Breeder's Choice products at the manufacturing facility and distribution sites"
The additional products have not been recalled. They are only being withheld pending the results of testing. Breeder's Choice brands include: - AvoDerm
- Pinnacle
- Active Care
- Advanced Pet Diets
What to Do? Salmonella is serious business - for both you and your pet. So, if you can confirm your dog's food is one of the products being recalled, stop feeding or handling it immediately. If you've discarded the packaging (something we recommend you never do) - or you're in any way in doubt - do not take chances. Be safe. Stop feeding the product anyway. For more information, the company suggests: Go to the AvoDerm website at http://www.avoderm.com/ or call the AvoDerm consumer line at (866) 500-6286
You can report complaints about FDA-regulated pet food products by calling the consumer complaint coordinator in your area. Or go to http://www.fda.gov/petfoodcomplaints. |

Help Us With
Our Year-Round Fundraisers
|

We need your help. We have recently partnered with Alphapooch to help us provide more comfortable living for our pet residents through their Buy a Bed Give a Shelter Bed Program. Alphapooch has agreed to donate a shelter bed to us for our foster dogs for every pet bed you purchase from their site: Alphapooch.com/pfgroups.
It's pretty simple. For every item you purchase for your family pets, the pets at our foster homes will get a comfortable bed to rest on! Alphapooch uses a wonderfully soft bedding material called Unreal Lambskin® that both cats and dogs just adore. We love the beds too as they are completely machine washable.
You can find more information on the program as well as their extensive catalogue through the link below (just click HERE to go directly to their website).
Help us make our foster homes a more relaxing place for our dogs while waiting for their forever home and while also treating your own pet to a luxurious new bed!
Thank you for the help!

Book donations needed
|
GSP Rescue NE is joining with
Got Books? as a new means of fundraising. Got Books? works by placing bins for recycled books in parking lots. If you have a parking lot with one extra space for a bin please contact Celeste.
This is a one year commitment. All you have to do is donate the space and call Got Books? to empty the bins when they're full.
Rescue gets paid per pound of books. Got Books? will work for rescue through active participation by the GSP Rescue organization and the community.
Requirements are:
1. Safety - The bin must be placed in a safe location for drivers, pedestrians and participants
2. Location - The Got Books? container should be visible to your members as well as the surrounding community
Successful programs establish a plan for getting books from the community. Posting information in the weekly program and bulletins, posting information on your website, and alerting local paper
about the Got Books? program and what Rescue is raising the money for. Every organization is unique and there is more than one way to accomplish the task of getting the books in to the Got Books? container.
Got Books? is a great way to increase recycling and earn extra money for programs within Rescue.
For more information on Got Books? or if you have room at your business to house a collection bin, contact Celeste.

Dog door discount! |

GSP Rescue New England is listed among rescue groups and shelters that have participated in Hale Pet Door's Rescue Rewards program.
The Rescue Rewards works this way: When customers let Hale know that they adopted a pet (either recently or in the past), they receive a 10 percent discount on the cost of their Hale Pet Door. And then Hale makes a donation for that same 10 percent amount to the organization that the customer tells them about. In 2010, Hale donated more than $20,000 to rescues and shelters all over the country.
