Funding for LATAN Has Been Removed from State Budget
If you are able to do so, please contact Sen. Lydia Jackson (Shreveport area and Vice-Chair of Senate Finance) at 1.318.676.7029 or jacksonl@legis.state.la.us You may also contact Senator John Alario at 1.225.342.9990 or email: alarioj@legis.state.la.us and ask that LATAN's funding be restored.
Please ask that they consider re-insertion of the $250,000 line item that was in place by the House for LATAN. This funding is essential to continue providing services for individuals with disabilities. LATAN is the only project in the State that assists with access to assitive technology. There is no other entity thus this service will be greatly diminished or not available with your support. LATAN thanks you for taking the time to inform our leaders of this important request. |

Each year, congress passes a resolution that designates June as National Aphasia Awareness Month to support efforts to increase the awareness of aphasia, a communication impairment caused by brain damage. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders
and Stroke (NINDS), aphasia affects at least 1,000,000 people in the United States.
The most common cause of aphasia is stroke. About 25-40% of stroke survivors have aphasia. Aphasia can also result from a head injury, brain tumor, or other neurological causes. It is most common among older people, but can occur in people of all ages. LATAN offers devices and equipment to assist you and your loved ones. Call LATAN today: 1.800.270.6185 |
