Greetings!
LATAN assists individuals of all ages with all disabilities to achieve a higher quality of life and greater independence through increased access to Assistive Technology as part of their daily lives. LATAN is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit statewide entity funded in part by Federal AT Act Grant, State Appropriations, public and private foundation grants, and via generous donations.

In its effort to reach as many individuals across Louisiana as possible, LATAN has implemented this monthly electronic communication newsletter service to keep consumers, caregivers, educators, therapists, supporters and all Louisiana citizens informed of LATAN's programs, activities and services for individuals with disabilities.

The Pebble

The Pebble portable closed circuit television from Ai Squared looks like a low tech magnifier but has high tech features. The Pebble can magnify up to 10x and features adjustable brightness, multiple color scheme options and 3.5" high resolution screen. It is well-suited for travel with a 2-hour battery life, 2-year warranty and travel case.

Tools for Independence
ATIA to Offer Webinars on Assistive Technology  
The Assistive Technology Industry Assn. (ATIA) is launching a series of informational webinars on assistive technology for people with disabilities and their families, professionals working with people with disabilities (such as teachers, rehab counselors, occupational therapists, etc.), AT specialists and educational institutions.

The 60- and 90-minute webinars will be offered during August and September. Each webinar costs $39, and includes CEUs for professionals. The first in the series will be held on Thursday, August 13.

With Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism, people often lack the inner voice that tells them what is, or is not, appropriate behavior. At Fraser Center, staff came up with the idea of programming iPods to act as an electronic substitute for that inner voice.
