VILLAGE OF HOMEWOOD'S POP UPRIGHTS

Visit the new location of the Pop Upright Piano! Stop by Art 4 Soul and enjoy the opportunity to play the Pop Upright Piano, create unique pottery and shop!  The piano will be at Art 4 Soul starting July 18.  Upload and share photos and stories of your interaction with the pianos: facebook.com/villageofhomewood.

ANNUAL SHRED-A-THON 

Green Event at the FarmersMarket

Saturday, July 21|  8:00AM - 12:00PM 

Village Hall Parking Lot, 2020 Chestnut Road

 

The Village offers activities for eco-minded residents every month during the Farmers Market.  This Saturday, July 21, Harris Bank in Homewood will sponsor a complimentary document shredding and recycling service from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM.   

 

Document shredding minimizes the risk of identity theft when discarding of personal items, etc.  Those bringing items to be shredded do not need to remove staples or paper clips, only binders.  This service is not intended for businesses. Three boxes maximum, please.

 

Oldest Document Contest

Remember to bring in your oldest document; you could win a gift card from Blueberry Hill!

ZOMBIES ARE IN HOMEWOOD

Homewood residents are invited to participate in a series of zombie films called "Zombie Paradise". These films are to promote the village's fun, creative and quirky side. Zombie Paradise will be posted on the Village of Homewood's Facebook page and Youtube.

 

The casting call will begin at 4:00 PM, Saturday, July 21, at Hillcrest Park on Locust Road and Rockwell Avenue. The shoot will start at 4:30PM, and should last approximately an hour. Homewood residents are encouraged to participate as extras in the film and to come dressed in zombie make-up and wearing regular clothes. For more information, please call 708-206-3375.

The Homewood Community Relations Commission, along with Flossmoor Community Relations and both public libraries, will host Movies in Our Parks, in H-F community parks. The events are free and created to provide a fun evening out for the family and an opportunity to meet neighbors from the H-F community. Come out and meet Homewood's finest...The Homewood Police department is hosting National Night Out. This is a great opportunity to meet the brave men and women that serve and protect the Village of Homewood. National Night Out was designed to generate support and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen the neighborhood/ police community partnership, and promote crime prevention awareness.

 

The evening will be filled with live entertainment, fun activities for the kids, food from Tin Ceiling, Aurelio's pizza, and refreshing ice cream from Dairy Queen. Groups will be on hand to discuss crime and drug prevention, and emergency vehicles and equipment will be on display. For more information, please call 798-3000.

WILLOW ROAD RESURFACING PROJECT

Gallagher Asphalt Corporation is scheduled to begin the resurfacing of Willow Road on July 18, 2012. The resurfacing will extend from Harwood Avenue to Riegel Road and is scheduled to be completed within 5 weeks. 

 

This section of Willow Road will remain open throughout construction, however, expect some delays when traveling during the day. Any questions about this project, please call (708) 206-3470.

H-F SOCCER CLUB FALL 2012 SEASON

Registration for the Fall 2012 Recreational season is underway. Register via mail now by downloading a form at www.hfsoccerclub.org. You can also register in person at the Walk-In Registration scheduled for Saturday, July 28th from 9am-noon at the Irwin Community Center. The Irwin Center is located at 18120 Highland Avenue in Homewood. The registration fee includes a uniform, pictures and a participation award.

Recreational League Information

 

Age: Girls & boys grades PK-8th, Pre-Kindergartners must have turned 4 by September 1, 2012

Early Bird Fee: $95 by July 28th  

Regular Fee: $130 after July 28th

Discount offered for families with 3 or more players ($255 by July 28th, $330 thereafter)

The Chicago White Sox would like to invite all residents in Homewood and Flossmoor to come to the August 4th, 2012 game. Cheer on the Homewood Flossmoor Summer Choir as they sing the National Anthem.

Homewood-Flossmoor High School's Summer Theatre will present Bye Bye Birdie, July 20 and 21. This 1960 Broadway musical tells the story of a rock star - Conrad Birdie - who takes a publicity trip to the small town of Sweet Apple, Ohio, to make his farewell T.V. performance and kiss his biggest fan before he is drafted for the war. The story is modeled after the real-life story of Elvis Presley's draft experience in the late 1950s.


Performances are scheduled for Friday, July 20, and Saturday, July 21, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the school's Mall Auditorium. Tickets ($7/adult, $5/student/child/senior) are available now at the school's Campus Store and will also be available at the door. The H-F production will be directed by Jill Bonavia, H-F drama teacher, and features local students from Grades 2-12.
