CASH MOBS ARE COMING TO HOMEWOOD

 

Mark your calendars: on Saturday, April 14th, the first Homewood Cash Mob event will take place! The Cash Mob movement is a new grassroots effort that uses social and traditional media to gather people together to "mob" a local business. Re-acquaint yourself with all the great stuff Homewood has to offer, help provide a mini-economic stimulus and free publicity for a deserving business, and enjoy a fun opportunity to connect with other residents.

 

Visit the Homewood Cash Mob Facebook page(www.facebook.com/homewoodcashmob) and let us know what Homewood business you think should be the first recipient of a Cash Mob. Planning to attend? Information is available for residents to assist in disaster readiness with the Citizens Online Preparedness Classes. Also available on the website are five on-line classes from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)  to prepare citizens for personal and community emergencies.

ART AND GARDEN VENDOR APPLICATION NOW AVAILABLE  

Calling all Artists! The Village of Homewood is looking for artists and craft vendors to participate in the Art and Garden Street Fair. This event is held on historic Martin Avenue in charming downtown Homewood. The tree-lined venue offers a uniquely welcoming atmosphere for artists and visitors to meet.

 

Exhibitors include all forms of paint application, photography, printmaking, antique jewelry, antique furniture, art glass, art works, decorative art, glass ware, textiles and handicrafts, from traditional forms to the avant-garde.  

 

This year the Fair will be held on Friday, June 8 from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday, June 9 from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Click here for an application and to learn more about the Art and Garden Street Fair. 

ON SALE: HOMEWOOD VEHICAL STICKERS, PARKING STICKERS AND ANIMAL TAGS

2012/2013 Vehicle stickers go on sale Monday, April 2. Preprinted applications are mailed to those who have purchased stickers in the past. Residents are encouraged to update outdated information on the applications. Vehicle sticker applications and payments may be mailed or placed in the Village's drop box located in front of the Village Hall. Completed applications, along with payment may also be brought to the Village Hall, 2020 Chestnut Road for processing.   Late fees will apply to all vehicle stickers purchased after May 31.

 

All Village parking stickers expire on April 30. This includes Overnight Parking Ban Exemptions, No Parking Ridge Road Exemptions, Central Business District Business Parking, and Central Business District Residential Parking. Individuals who currently hold any of these parking stickers must renew them. A new application is required each year.

 

 In addition to vehicle stickers, animal license tags also go on sale April 2. A current rabies certificate is required for purchasing an animal license each year. Please call 798-3000 if you have any questions.

SAINT JOSEPH ANNUAL FISH FRY

Every Friday during Lent, the St. Joseph Athletic Association sponsors a fish fry fundraiser for the sport programs offered at St. Joseph. The association funds a scholarship program to assist children the financial opportunity to play sports. Over the years, the St. Joseph Fish Fry has become a community-wide event.  People come from all over to eat and socialize. The menu consists of all-you-can-eat, hand-breaded Alaskan Pollock or catfish at $8.00 per person. Seniors eat for $6.00, from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM and children are $5.00.  For those who don't have a craving for fish, we offer an eight piece shrimp dinner that includes coleslaw, a roll and dessert for $8.00.  For the pasta lovers, we have a spaghetti dinner that includes coleslaw, roll and a dessert for $5.00 and Mac-&-Cheese for $4.00.  Beer, wine, and pop are available.  INFANT WELFARE SPRING LUNCHEON

The Flossmoor Juniors Chapter of the Infant Welfare Society will host their annual spring luncheon on Friday, April 27th at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields. This event starts at

10:30 AM when various boutique vendors open for a day of shopping. Raffle prizes, baskets and a French bakery will also be on-hand. A gourmet luncheon will be served at Noon followed by Barbara Rinella's book review of Paula McLain's bestselling novel, The Paris Wife. Ticket costs for the entire day of entertainment are $50.00 per person; however, guests who are unable to stay for the luncheon are invited to enjoy shopping and complimentary coffee from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM for a $10.00 donation to Infant Welfare. Luncheon tickets may be purchased in advance by calling Leslie Streitmatter at 708-704-6022 and walk-ins are welcome for the coffee & shopping portion of the day.  

 

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago,which provides quality, community-based healthcare to underinsured and uninsured women and children who would otherwise lack access to basic medical services.

BE A BUCKLE BUDDY 

Be a Buckle Buddy! This is a public service program featuring a toll-free, statewide, hotline that allows any concerned individual to anonymously report an unbuckled child in Illinois. This is a non-punitive program; reported drivers will receive an information packet filled with Safe Kids, child passenger safety information, and passenger safety laws in Illinois.  

Buckle Buddy is to aid in the reduction and prevention of unrestrained child passenger injuries and fatalities. If you see an unbuckled child, call 1-888-800-2642 and leave a message providing licenses plate number, date, vehicle description, city, and county. Law enforcement partner retrieves vehicle owner's information and send out the information packet.

 

Remember if you see an unrestrained child please pull over to the side of the road to place the call or wait until you have reached your destination. If you feel a child is in eminent danger, please call 911.
