Gypsy Style Crimes are committed by subjects who use false identities to gain the confidence of a homeowner so they can enter the victim's home. Below is a list of popular identities and stories that are used by the offenders.

False Identities:

  • New Neighbor
  • Utility Worker
  • Village Employee
  • Construction Worker

 False Stories:

  •  Installing a fence and need you to check the property line
  •  Checking on your water meter or working on broken water main
  •  Cutting some trees or performing some service that may affect your property
  • Checking on work that was done for you or your neighbor

Remember to always ask for identification from anyone that may want to enter your home. You may also want to ask them what company they are from and call that company for verification. If the subject claims to be a village employee, call the village to confirm whether or not an employee is in the area doing work. You may also call the Homewood Police Department at anytime and we will come out and verify the identity and reason for a person being at your house.
