CHOCOLATE FEST | |
Chocolate Fest
Saturday, February 18|11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
The Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road
sponsored by the Community Relations Commission
Chocolate Fest will roll back to the fabulous 50's with a "Sock-Hop" feel. Hop on down to the H-F Auditorium where it has been transformed into 1950's school dance. As always, Chocolate Fest will showcase the best local and national confectioners. The event will feature live music from Fast Eddie and the Corvettes, delicious chocolates for sale, and activities for the entire family.
Chocolates Around the World
Downtown merchants will host Chocolates Around the World. Get your "Chocolate" passport at Chocolate Fest and travel the downtown Homewood merchants and sample exotic chocolates from different countries. Participate in the Downtown Homewood Business Association raffle and win amazing prizes.
Chocolate Bake-Off
Do you have a family favorite recipe with Chocolate as the main ingredient? The Community Relations Commission will host its annual bake-off contest. All entries will be available for sampling by making a small donation. Beneficiaries of the sampling are the Girl Scouts. Applications are available online (click here for the current application) or the Village Hall. Participants must register by February 13, 2012.
Some restrictions do apply.

2012 HALL of FAME NOMINATION FORMS ONLINE | |
The Village of Homewood is proud of its heritage and its strong sense of community. It is the wealth of its heritage that has contributed greatly to the Homewood we are today.
Homewood has been privileged to have many individuals who have given generously of their time and talent to maintain and strengthen the sense of community that has been so vital in developing Homewood as a prosperous community. The Village of Homewood will acknowledge up to five current or past residents bi-yearly who have made significant and beneficial contributions to the life and well being of the Village of Homewood.
Residents are encouraged to nominate individuals, married couples, or a family. Homewood is privileged to have many individuals who have given generously of their time and talent to maintain and strengthen the sense of community that is vital to developing Homewood as a prosperous community.

SENIOR TAX DEFERRAL PROGRAM | |
Sponsored by PLOWS COUNCIL FOR THE AGING
Senior Citizens who are having trouble paying real estate taxes can apply for the Senior Citizens Tax Deferral Program: The State of Illinois program allows qualified persons to defer 100% of taxes up to 80% of your equity on their personal residence.
To qualify:
- You must be at least 65 or older by June 1, 2012.
- Your annual household income must be $50,000 or less.
- You must own the property and have resided there for at least 3 years.
- There can be no delinquent real estate taxes owed on the residence.
- The property must be insured against fire hazard loss for at least the amount of the deferred taxes.
- You must have written approval from your spouse if property is held jointly or from the trustee if the property is in a qualifying trust.
Seniors with reverse mortgages should contact their lender before applying. Those with standard mortgages do not need lender approval to qualify.
