Village President Richard Hofeld announces that Ralph DeWitt has accepted the position of Village Manager for the Village of Homewood.
Currently Chief of the Investigations Bureau for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, DeWitt is no stranger to the Village, serving two terms as Trustee with the Homewood Village Board from 2001 - 2009 and a resident of the community for 14 years.
DeWitt received his Masters of Public Administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago, IL) and during his 20 year tenure with the Investigations Bureau, DeWitt has supervised several public integrity investigations, which resulted in convictions of high-level government and public officials.

Pick a pumpkin and make a difference in a cancer survivor's life. The Cancer Support Center will be selling pumpkins in their festive pumpkin patch from October 17th to October 31st, Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Join in more autumn fun when The Cancer Support Center hosts Family Fun Day, on October 29th. Local vendors will be selling seasonal themed items and pick out your favorite pumpkin in the pumpkin patch. The Center will also be opening their facility to children, of all ages, to partake in a costume contest, pumpkin painting, and seasonal games! Join the community as we celebrate the season while supporting those who use The Cancer Support Center's services.

Homewood Rail Park, Park Avenue - north of train station
Homewood's Rail Committee will host its annual Hobo Night at the Homewood Rail Park located on the west side of the rail tracks on Park Avenue, just north of the train station. Young and old alike are invited to join in the festivities, which will include a bonfire, marshmallow roasting, sing-a-long, hobo stories and tours of the Illinois Central Railroad caboose. Twisted Q Barbeque will provide complimentary desserts. Don't miss this fun fall event! |

The Homewood Historical Society will be meeting on Wednesday, October 12, in the meeting room of the Homewood Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, at 7:00 PM.
Following the meeting and a short refreshment break, author and paranormal investigator Terry Fisk will examine haunted locations in Illinois and discuss case histories, eyewitness accounts, and ghost lore. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and to recognize the importance of this cause, the HF Area League of Women Voters will host an evening of conversation about domestic violence. This timely topic will be led by Karen Wehryn of the Crisis Center of the South Suburbs and Carol Gsell of the South Suburban Family Shelter. The discussion will help enlighten and educate about the problems of domestic violence and what alternatives are available to the victims and their families.

The Village will offer this program through Cook County and President Toni Preckwinkles Prescription Give Back Program. Collect your old medications and bring them to this event. When you're done, shop in-season fruits and veggies and more with local vendors.
