CANDELIGHT VIGIL

South Suburban Family Shelter will host its annual Candlelight Vigil in honor of the victims of domestic violence and their families. The vigil is meant to bring awareness to the community about the prevalence of domestic violence, and to let people know that there are free support services available for victims and their family.For more information, please call (708)798-2140, ext. 303.

WALK OF HOPE 

Walk of Hope

Sunday, October 9th

Save the date for The Cancer Support Center's 13th Annual Walk of Hope.  More than 1,500 walkers, volunteers and participants are expected to participate on Sunday, October 9.  The Walk is sponsored by Franciscan St. James Health.  The Walk will be held at Irwin Park, 18120 Highland Avenue.  

 

  • Registration opens on-site at 10:30 AM. A special kick-off ceremony begins at 11:30 AM. Walkers and runners will begin around 12:00 PM
  •  

    Register for The Walk and create your own web page to raise pledges on-line! You may also register at The Center or by faxing your registration form to (708) 798-0052.

    • Individual (adult 15 yrs & up): $25
    • Child (ages 5 - 14 yrs): $10
    • Child (ages 4 & under): free
    • **Note: Adult registration fee will be raised $10 after September 30th.

    HOBO NIGHT

    Saturday, October 15th

    Starts at 6:30 PM   

    Homewood Rail Park, Park Avenue - north of train station

     

    Homewood's Rail Committee will host its annual Hobo Night at the Homewood Rail Park located on the west side of the rail tracks on Park Avenue, just north of the train station.  Young and old alike are invited to join in the festivities, which will include a bonfire, marshmallow roasting, sing-a-long, hobo stories and tours of the Illinois Central Railroad caboose.  Don't miss this fun fall event!

    HOMEWOOD HISTORICAL SOCIETY

    The Homewood Historical Society will be meeting on Wednesday, October 12, in the meeting room of the Homewood Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, at 7:00 PM. 

     

    Following the meeting and a short refreshment break, author and paranormal investigator Terry Fisk will examine haunted locations in Illinois and discuss case histories, eyewitness accounts, and ghost lore.  The meeting is free of charge and open to the public.  For more information please call (708) 799-9055.

    Join Foundation 153 and the Parent Music Association for the Fifth Annual Pasta Palooza. .  The evening will feature performances by School District 153 students, including music, choir, and drama groups. All proceeds from this event will be used for programs throughout School District 153.
