FALL FEST 2011 & ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFF

Homewood's favorite fall time festival is this Saturday. Fall Fest will feature live entertainment, horse-drawn wagon rides through downtown, the annual bean bag tournament, petting zoo and pony rides, games, craft vendors, a pumpkin patch, children's crafts, and scrumptious cuisine prepared by local eateries. A highlight of Fall Fest is the annual Chili-Cook Off where residents vie for "Homewood's Top Chef" while raising money for a local not-for-profit in the Open Chili Tasting.

Great music is a staple of Fall Fest, and three talented bands - The Fret Brothers, Latin Satin Soul, and Staff Infection and the South Side Horns - will carry on this finger-snapping, toe tapping tradition.

MEET MURAL ARTIST RICHARD HAAS

 The Homewood Council for the Arts will host a Meet and Greet with famous New York artist, Richard Haas on Saturday, September 17 from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM

 

Watch the final brush strokes of the new Homewood theatre mural.  Mr. Haas will discuss his interest in Homewood, his works around the world, and the art technique, trompe o'l'oeil.

 This event is held during Homewood's annual Fall Fest event.

Foundation 153's is hosting second annual 5k run and 153 yard fun run, on Sunday, September 25. The race will start at Millennium School and make its way around beautiful Homewood neighborhoods. The 153 yard fun run will take place immediately afterwards, along with games and activities. Awards will be given to the top three males and females, and also to the top finishers in each age group. All proceeds from the "HOMEWOOD SCHOOL FUND RUN" will be used for programs throughout school district 153.For more information click here.

Save the Date for The Cancer Support Center's 13th Annual Walk of Hope.  More than 1,500 walkers, volunteers and participants are expected at The 13th Annual Walk of Hope, Sunday, October 9th, presented by Franciscan St. James Health.  The walk will be held at Irwin Park, 18120 Highland Avenue.  

 

  • Registration opens on-site at 10:30 AM
  • A special kick-off ceremony begins at 11:30 AM
  • Walkers and runners will begin around 12:00 PM

    SAFETY TIPS FROM HOMEWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT

    These are helpful tips from the Homewood Police Department to keep you and your vehicle safe from burglars:

    •  Always lock your vehicle, even when it is parked in your driveway or on the street in front of your house.
    • Do not leave personal property in your vehicle.   This includes;
      • GPS Systems visible on the dash. 
      • Laptops or bags clearly designed to carry laptops
      • Purses, wallets and keys
      • Briefcases, gym bags or other containers
      • Shopping bags with purchases
      • Loose cash or containers of change
      • CDs and cases
      • iPods, Cell phones and other electronic devices
      • Tools
    • If you must leave property in your vehicle, make sure it is not visible.  Lock property in your trunk.          
    • Periodically check your vehicle if it is not driven everyday

    If you are a victim of a car burglary, notify the police as soon as you discover the incident, even if nothing of value is taken.

     

    The easiest way to prevent vehicle burglary is by keeping your vehicle locked!
