According to the National Weather Service a heat warning has been issued, and will be in effect for the next several days. During this hot weather, temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
The following advice and options are recommended for residents who need alternate daytime shelter during a period of excessive heat:
- Stay with friends, neighbors or relatives who can provide a more comfortable climate.
- Consider staying in the basement where it may be cooler.
- Arrange to have family or friends check on persons who may be susceptible to distress during the heat wave.
- Contact your house of worship to determine if it is permitting members to stay in its facilities.
- Go to a public building during normal business hours such as the Marie Irwin Community Center located at 18120 Highland Avenue (708-957-7275), Homewood Public Library located at 17917 Dixie Highway (708-798-0121), or the Homewood Village Hall located at 2020 Chestnut Road (708-798-3000).
