Vehicle Stickers & Pet Tags on Sale | |
Vehicle stickers and pet tags may be purchased at Village Hall, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00PM. Avoid the lines and mail in your renewal form or put it in the drop box. The application will be processed and mailed back to you within two businesses days.

Parking Stickers Expire April 30

All Village parking stickers expire on April 30. This includes Overnight Parking Ban Exemptions, No Parking Ridge Road Exemptions, Central Business District Business Exemptions, and Central Business District Residential Parking. Individuals who currently hold any of these parking stickers must renew the parking sticker during April and May. A new application is required each year. Stop in Village Hall during business hours for your 2011/2012 sticker.

Call to Artists for Pop-Up Art Space
Entry deadline May 10, 2011
Create your own gallery for your art! Individuals and/or groups will be awarded the temporary use of an unoccupied commercial space in downtown Homewood. There is no entry fee to participate and the Village of Homewood will cover the cost for promotion, advertising, and special events for the Pop-Up Art Space.
To be considered for the round one exhibit period, June 1, 2011-August 15, 2011, all submissions must be in by May 10, 2011. Homewood Pop-Up Art Space is an on-going initiative. Artists' proposals will be retained for future consideration and new proposal will be accepted on an ongoing basis.

Homewood's Pop-Up Art Space program transforms vacant storefronts into public art galleries & exhibits by facilitating partnerships between local artists, gallerists & property owners. The program brings color, attention, life & energy to otherwise unused spaces. Coordinated by the Homewood Council for the Arts & Economic Development Committee, the program is designed to reinvigorate Homewood's commercial districts & aims to instill community pride, support local merchants, improve streetscape conditions & safety, revitalize the property's appearance, increase foot traffic, & support local artists. |

Eighth Annual Rail Days

This year we will be commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Illinois Central Railroad Green Diamond. The Green Diamond was the first diesel powered passenger train operated by the Illinois Central. Additionally, the 40th anniversary of Amtrak occurs in May.
On Saturday, there will be an Illinois Central Railroad History Symposium at the Homewood Public Library from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 PM, free admission. Saturday evening the Annual Multi-media Rail Photography Show will be held at St. Joseph's Church Parish Hall from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Sunday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the Rail Show will be held at the Village Complex, Auditorium, Village Hall, and Fire Station. In addition to the vendors, layouts, and equipment display, "Lil Obie" from Canadian National will be giving rides to kids of all ages. The "World's Largest Mobile Model Railroad Layout" will be on display, featuring over 400 feet of track and housed in a 47 foot trailer. There is over eight miles of wiring, 800W theatre audio system, interactive accessories and much more. Multiple Lionel and MTH O gauge trains run continuously and automatically. The lighting simulates 24 hours going from day to night with a fiber optic star show designed by Walt Disney Designs.
Also on Sunday a hosted rail fan train watching and photography event will be held at the Rail Watching Platform. The caboose will be open at the Rail Park.
The Committee will host a rail photography display and contest, railroad model contest, and will be raffling off a HO scale model railroad layout.

Art and Garden Street Fair
Entry Deadline May 4
The DowntownHomewood Business Association is looking for vendors to particpate in the two-day Art & Garden Street Fair scheduled for June 17 & 18.
Exhibiters include all forms of paint application, photography, printmaking, antique jewelry, antique furniture, art glass, art works, decorative art, glass ware, textiles and handicrafts, from traditional forms to the avant-garde.
This year the Fair will be held on Friday, June 17 from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Saturday, June 18 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Friday's format offers a lively, nighttime atmosphere with a full schedule of live entertainment and dance opportunities covering a wide variety of genres. Saturday embodies all of the rich features of an outdoor, cultural experience for art admirers and buyers of all levels.
A pre-selection panel will review submitted art work, original art work only. The entry deadline to be included in all marketing materials is May 4.

Experience an evening or afternoon, viewing distinct artwork while you enjoy light refreshments at the grand opening of the Village Artists' Gallery, now located in the heart of downtown Homewood at 1957 Ridge Road.
The Village Artists Organization is a base for anyone interested in art and a place to work alone or in a group. The purpose of the Village Artists is to advance, promote, encourage and elevate the artistic interests of members and of the community.
The Village Artists is a non-profit group, furnishing the members with a workshop, work space, classes, exhibits, museum and gallery tours, paint-outs, etc. The members have their own key and may work at the studio anytime. The studio is fully equipped with easels, sculpture stands , a kiln, two pottery wheels and shelf space where each person may keep supplies.
The Village Artists' Open Gallery Day is the first Saturday of each month from 11:00AM until 2:00PM

The Veterans Committee, who make it there mission to inform, honor and acknowledge current and past Homewood residents who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces, will be hosting a Homewood CanteenFundraiser.
As a show of gratitude to the brave men and women for their service, both current and past wars, the Veterans Committee will host a dinner and dance, on Saturday, May 21, in the HF Auditorium, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The event will be filled with 1940 style music, dancing, and a delicious buffet, all reminiscent of the parties held for the military home from service.
Proceeds will benefit military families that are experiencing financial hardship due to military deployment.

Culver's in Homewood will be participating in Take a Bite Out of Cancer on Tuesday, May 10 from 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM. Culver's will be donating 15% of participant's bill (excluding taxes) to the Cancer Support Center on the event date.
Take a Bite Out of Cancer is a program that creates a relationship between the community and local restaurants. Participants dine at restaurant on event dates where a certain percentage of their bill will benefit the Cancer Support Center, and the programs it provides free-of-charge to community members who have been touched by a cancer diagnosis.
