VEHICAL STICKERS AND PET TAGS ON SALE 

Vehical stickers and pet tags may be purchased at Village Hall, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 12:00PM. Avoid the lines and mail in your renewal form or put it in the drop box. The application will be processed and mailed back to you within two businesses days.

PARKING STICKERS EXPIRE ON APRIL 30   

All Village parking stickers expire on April 30. This includes Overnight Parking Ban Exemptions, No Parking Ridge Road Exemptions, Central Business District Business Exemptions, and Central Business District Residential Parking. Individuals who currently hold any of these parking stickers must renew the parking sticker during April and May. A new application is required each year.   Stop in Village Hall during business hours for your 2011/2012 sticker.

2011 SPRING TREESHARE PROGRAM

The Village of Homewood's TreeShare Program offers residents the chance to purchase selected trees at a 50% discount. These trees can be planted anywhere on your private property or parkway area, as long as no utility conflicts exist. The trees come from top-quality nurseries located throughout the Midwest region and are chosen for their ability to survive in Homewood's soil and climate. Each tree is hand-selected and inspected by the Village Arborist, and delivered to your property. To purchase a tree, please go to the Village Hall and fill out an order form. Limit two per resident. Orders will be taken until noon on Saturday, April 2nd. To view trees that are available for purchase, click here

EIGHTH ANNUAL RAIL DAYS

Eighth Annual Rail Days

Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15 

Coordinated by the Homewood Rail Committee

 

Rail Days LogoThis year we will be commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Illinois Central Railroad Green Diamond.   The Green Diamond was the first diesel powered passenger train operated by the Illinois Central.  Additionally, the 40th anniversary of Amtrak occurs in May.

On Saturday, there will be an Illinois Central Railroad History Symposium at the Homewood Public Library from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 PM, free admission.  Saturday evening the Annual Multi-media Rail Photography Show will be held at St. Joseph's Church Parish Hall from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. 

Sunday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the Rail Show will be held at the Village Complex, Auditorium, Village Hall, and Fire Station.  In addition to the vendors, layouts, and equipment display, "Lil Obie" from Canadian National will be giving rides to kids of all ages.    The "World's Largest Mobile Model Railroad Layout" will be on display, featuring over 400 feet of track and housed in a 47 foot trailer.  There is over eight miles of wiring, 800W theatre audio system, interactive accessories and much more.  Multiple Lionel and MTH O gauge trains run continuously and automatically.  The lighting simulates 24 hours going from day to night with a fiber optic star show designed by Walt Disney Designs.

Also on Sunday a hosted rail fan train watching and photography event will be held at the Rail Watching Platform.  The caboose will be open at the Rail Park.

The Committee will host a rail photography display and contest, railroad model contest, and will be raffling off a HO scale model railroad layout.

South Suburban Family Shelter is hosting it annual Spring Boutique. There will be a variety of artisans, crafters and other sellers offering unique and distinctive gift items for Mother's Day, Easter, graduations and other events. SSFS will benefit from 20% of all sales from the Spring Boutique, which support the services provided to families who experience domestic violence. These services include:

  • 24-Hour Hotline
  • Emergency Shelter
  • Counseling for adult victims and their children
  • Abuser Intervention program
  • Court Advocacy
  • Medical Advocacy
  • Prevention program

H-F PARK DISTRICT DRIVER'S SAFETY PROGRAM FOR 55 OR BETTER

Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7

9:00AM -1:00PM

Irwin Community Center, 18120 Highland Avenue

 

Participants, 55 or better, will learn current driving safety skills and tips for safer travels. This eight hour class work on two consecutive days may make participants eligible for reduced auto insurance rates. Fee is $12.00 for AARP members and $14.00 for non-members. Payment is due to the instructor the morning of the first class.

NFFF and Baskin Robbins will be the 2011 charitable partners for the fifth Annual 31-Cent Scoop Night. Come out on Wednesday April 27, from 5:00PM until 10:00PM to Baskin and Robbins as they roll back the price of cups and cones to 31-cents and meet some of Homewood's finest firefighters.
