Homewood Area Chamber Luncheon

Please join the Homewood Area Chamber for their Annual Installation Luncheon, March 3 at 11:30 AM, at Bogart's Charhouse (18225 Dixie Highway). This luncheon will be fun informative event to introduce the new Chamber Board, The 3/50 Project, and the launch of the S.I.P. Program (Support, Involvement, and Participation).
The luncheon is free to all Chamber members and businesses that are joining the Chamber with a requested donation of $10.00 or more to your favorite non-for-profit organizations. The organizations will be listed at the luncheon.

The League of Women Voters- H-F Area and League of Women Voters -Park Forest Area, will sponsor the Prairie State College District 515 Candidate Forum.
Prairie State College, a local governmental taxing body, plays a very important role in the higher education of residents in this area.
This forum is a wonderful opportunity for residents to meet the candidates, understand the issues facing this Board of Directors in order to cast educated votes. There are three vacant positions and nine candidates:

SEAT BELT ENFORCEMENT | |
Enforcement throughout Village
March 11 through March 19
The Police Department, in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Transportation, will be conducting Seat Belt Enforcement Zones and Saturation Patrols from March 11through March 19. This is an effort to educate the public in traffic safety and reduce personal injury accidents. These zones will be staffed at several locations throughout the Village. |

During this inspirational evening and celebration of life, love and family, the Aurelios Family will be awarded the 2011 Richard K. Desser MD Spirit Life Award. The Sprit of Life Award is presented each year to a local Southland resident who has made a significant impact on cancer patients and their families.
The Women's Board of The Cancer Support Center will be presenting the Extravagant Basket Raffle where one-of-a-kind items will be packaged into themed baskets and raffled off at the end of the night. Additionally, guests may honor or recognize a loved one through a special $25.00 tribute to be displayed at the event.

Come out to hear about interesting science being done by local scientists in the cozy environment of our local pubs. The Homewood-Flossmoor Science Pub, affiliated with the Science Café network started by PBS (WGBH in Boston), is a new monthly public event which will be hosted alternately at Grady's Grill in Homewood, and the Flossmoor Station Brewery. The first lecture will be at Grady's Grill on March 29. It will be presented by Dr Peter Doran from the University of Illinois at Chicago. The second lecture will be on April 26 at the Brewery. The title of his talk will be: "Human and Robotic science in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of East Antarctica".

The Rotary Club of Homewood is hosting a luncheon featuring Rotary International Director and Vice-President Tom Thorfinnson.
Mr. Thorfinnson serves on the Rotary International Board with directors chosen from countries around the world where Rotary clubs have been established. He has served Rotary as a member of the Reach Out to Africa subcommittee and part of the North America Polio Eradication Fundraising Campaign leadership team. Mr. Thorfinnson has led 11 volunteer trips to Haiti and Nigeria and is an active supporter of water projects in developing countries. Mr. Thorfinnson will share his thoughts about the work of Rotary around the world, in the United States and in the local community.
