Village Hall Holiday Closings | | The Village Hall and Municipal Service Center will be closed Thursday, December 23 and Friday, December 24, in observance of the Christmas holiday. The offices will reopen on Monday, December 27 at 8:00 AM On this holiday, emergency water and sewer service is available by calling (708) 206-3420. Customary police and fire emergency services will be available.
Village Hall and the Municipal Service Center will also be closed on Friday, December 31 and Saturday, January 1, in observance of the New Year's Day holiday.

COME CELEBRATE 1-1-11! The world may tune in to Time Square (NYC) at midnight, but in Homewood, families gather together for a countdown and balloon drop - at the stroke of noon - on Friday, December 31. Join the Community Relations Commission for a family Hawaiian luau celebration. Doors open at 10:30 AM for a vibrant performance by the Barefoot Hawaiians. Watch a dazzling Samoan Fire Knife dance, the thrilling visual Poi Balls dance from New Zealand and, of course, the famous Hula dance from Hawaii. The auditorium will thunder with sounds of the Log Drums of the Islands. Leis and light refreshments provided - grass skirt optional. Plan on having your 2011 family photo taken by Thomas Photographic Services. Photos under $10.00.

Snowflake Contest Winners
| | Congratulations to the winners who located the unique snowflake in Mayor Hofeld's annual winter contest. The winners came to Village Hall on Saturday mornings and disclosed the special snowflakes location and received a gift certificate from Grady's Grille. Twenty five- five dollar gift certificates were handed out to all winners. The Snowflake can be found on the lamp post in front of St. Paul's Church on Dixie Highway. A special thanks to Grady's Grille for their gift certificates donation. Congratulations to the following Winners!

Christmas Tree Recycling Opportunities

Christmas Tree Recycling Saturday, January 1 and Saturday, January 8 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Irons Oaks, Vollmer Road off Western Avenue in Olympia Fields sponsored by Irons Oaks, The Western Avenue Green Team and the Molski and Manos Families
How do you stuff your Christmas Tree into a garbage can? You don't! Recycle it instead. Please join us for our first annual Tree Recycling Program.
When: Saturday, January 1 and Saturday January 8 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Where: Irons Oaks Vollmer Road Parking Lot (please enter on the west side 7 exit on the east)
Recycled trees will be made into mulch and donated to Irons Oaks for use in their grounds and trails.There is no cost for this program and it is open to anyone who would like to donate. All decorations must be removed from the trees prior to donation. No other recyclables will be accepted at this time. This program is presented by Irons Oaks, the Western Avenue Green Team and the Molski and Manos Families.

South Suburban Family Shelter (SSFS) is seeking cell phone donations and new cell phone collection sites for their on-going fundraiser program. Donating a used cell phone allows community members to donate to a good cause without reaching into their wallets. Proceeds from the collection fund critical programs and services provided to families who experience domestic violence. Services include: - 24 Hour Hotline
- Emergency Shelter
- Counseling for victims
- Abuser Intervention Program
- Medical Advocacy
- Court Advocacy
- Prevention Programs
- Professional Training
