Homewood to Welcome 115 Soldiers Home! |
|
Saturday, July 10
Parade starts at 10:00 AM | Ceremony at 11:00 AM
Irwin Park | Homewood Chevrolet Main Stage at Homewood Days
115 soldiers of the 308th Civil Affairs Brigade headquartered in Homewood will be recognized for their service in Afghanistan and Iraq in a Welcome Home Warrior Citizen Award Ceremony on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 10:00 AM in downtown Homewood. A parade featuring the soldiers and their families will travel west on Ridge Road from Highland Avenue to Dixie Highway at 10:00 AM, ending at the Homewood Chevrolet Main Stage, AT & T Homewood Days.
The Welcome Home Warrior-Citizen Award Program was created by President George W. Bush and Congress in 2004 to acknowledge service abroad by Soldiers in the Army Reserve, such as those with the 308th. The award consists of a personalized, encased American flag, a yellow Welcome Home Warrior-Citizen flag, an Army Reserve Soldier lapel set and a specially-designed commemorative coin.
Community members from throughout the Chicago Southland will come out to show, in a small way, our gratitude for these soldiers, and their families, selfless service and sacrifice in support of the Global War on Terror, says Char Dyer, chair of the Homewood Veterans' Committee, an advisory group to the Homewood Village Board of Trustees that advocates and coordinates events for active and retired military personnel in the community. Help us give these soldiers and their families a Homewood Welcome Home. Show your support by coming to the parade and into Homewood Days to cheer them on as they receive their awards.
