Village Hall Closed for Holiday
|
The Village Hall and Municipal
Service Center will be closed Monday, May 31, in observance of the Memorial Day
holiday. The offices will reopen on
Tuesday, June 1 at 8:00 AM. On this
holiday, customary police and fire emergency services will be available, and emergency
water and sewer service is available by calling (708) 206-3420. Residential garbage collection for Wednesday
will occur on Thursday.

Late Fee for Vehicle Stickers
|
Vehicle stickers should now be displayed on all
vehicles. A late fee of $25.00 will be assessed for stickers purchased on
June 1 or later. Exceptions are new residents of 30 days or less, or
vehicles purchased within the last 60 days. Proof of date is required. If
you have questions, please contact the Finance Department at (708)
798-3000.

2010 Hall of Fame Nomination Forms Online | |
The Homewood Heritage Committee is pleased to announce that the 2010 Hall of Fame Nomination Form is now available online.
Residents are encouraged to nominate someone who has made a significant and beneficial contribution to the life and well being of the Village of Homewood over a span of time. Nominees may be individuals, married couples, or a family. Homewood is privileged to have many individuals who have given generously of their time and talent to maintain and strengthen the sense of community that is vital to developing Homewood as a prosperous community.
Nominations must be received by Friday, May 28, 2010. |

Entry Forms Available for Annual Amateur Art Contest

The Annual President's Art Contest Entry Form is now available. The annual contest draws artists from all art medias, ages, and skill level. All entries must depict life in Homewood, past or present; whether a snapshot of wildlife at Izaak Walton Preserve, a sketch of downtown's diverse architecture, or a painting of one of Homewood's many events and celebrations, all art forms are accepted and will be judged at the Art and Garden Street Fair on Saturday, June 19. Drivin' the Dixie 2010 |
hosted by the Homewood Heritage Committee Saturday, June 19 | cars pull into Homewood at 10:00 AM Hickory Road, special parking and viewing The Dixie Highway is a historic route in the United States, and in Illinois several groups come together every year to "Cruise" the Dixie from Blue Island to Momence. The event started in Homewood with the Homewood Heritage Committee and continues more than seven years later with a huge following, featuring classics from Model A Fords to anything from the present. Stops are made along the way in several of the cities and everyone has a great time while celebrating a piece of history. Those seeking to participate (all are welcome) should contact Heritage Committee Chair Elaine Egdorf at (708) 798-9535; those wanting to view the cars should go to Hickory Road at Martin Avenue around 10:00 AM. Event held in conjunction with the Art and Garden Street Fair.

The following streets will be resurfaced. All roadways will remain open throughout construction; however, expect some delays when traveling during the day. Any questions about this project should be directed to the Village Engineer Max Massi at (708) 206-3470.

Dixie Highway Bridge Closure |
|
Dixie Highway will be closed through October 1 for the replacement and reconstruction of the bridge over
Butterfield Creek between Flossmoor Road and Holbrook Road (Flossmoor,
IL). Flossmoor Road and Holbrook Road will remain open just north and south, respectively, of the construction site. The designated detour on adjacent State routes around construction will be as shown on the Dixie Highway Detour Map. The proposed detour will be adequately signed in order to guide and advise motorists about the bridge closure. Any questions about this project should be directed to the Village Engineer Max Massi at (708) 206-3470. |

Brian Carey Scholarship Fund |
 In honor of Firefighter Brian Carey a scholarship fund has been established at Loras College, his alma mater. Contributions are being accepted at any Charter One Bank (nationwide). This is a way to honor and perpetuate this fine young man's memory. For information about making donations at a local Charter One Bank, contact Homewood Branch Manager Dave Zimmerman at (708) 647-2070, or simply visit any Charter One location and request to make a donation to the Brian Carey Scholarship Fund. Once $25,000 is reached, Charter One Bank will present a check to Loras College for a scholarship endowment in honor of Carey. Money will not be accepted at Homewood Village Hall or the Homewood Fire Department for the Carey Scholarship. |
