Census Response Will Determine Dollars for Homewood |
|
Your participation in the Census will help Homewood receive the fiscal and social benefits to which it is entitled.
The Census determines how $300 billion in federal funds for grants and programs are allocated. Homewood's budget receives a portion of the State Use Tax, Income Tax, and Motor Fuel Tax on a per-capita basis. These monies are used to fund the Village's operations and street re-paving and improvement projects.
If our population dips because not everyone participated in the Census, we will receive less money to fund operations and street work. Based upon our current population of 19,543 residents, we received over $2.5 million dollars of state revenue.
Census questionnaires are currently being mailed to every household and apartment unit in Homewood. The Form has 10 short questions and after completed is to be mailed back in a postage-paid envelope provided. Questions on the Form relate to number of residents, their sex, age, date of birth, race and homeownership. It does not ask about your legal status or for your Social Security Number. Confidentiality is assured.
Your participation really matters to all of Homewood - a lower head count means less money for crucial community planning efforts. Click here to learn more about the 2010 Census. |

Chocolate Fest |
|
Residents spent a delicious day in downtown Homewood on February 20th, sampling and buying chocolates and sweets from local and regional chocolatiers. The Community Relations Commission thanks the Homewood Tree Committee for hosting free nature projects, the Homewood Veterans Committee for coordinating the Sweet Messages to Soldiers Projects, and the Homewood Area Chamber for sponsoring the annual pie eating contest.
Judges for the Amateur Bake-Off Contest, Chicago Alderman Toni Preckwinkle, Representative Anthony DeLuca, and Food Technologist Julie Turpin selected the following contestants as winners in this year's contest: Joanie Thornber (Adult/First Place), Lisa Purcell (Adult/Second Place), and Pamela Watson (Adult/Third Place); Alina Brown (Youth/First Place), Kate Morril-Ploum (Youth/Second Place), and Alex Walsh (Youth/Third Place).
During the open tasting, over $180.00 was raised by generous chocolate lovers for the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana. |

Village Bond Rating Upgrade
|
|
The national rating agency of Standard and Poor's (S&P)
has placed a rating of AA on Village of Homewood 2010 General Obligation (GO)
Bonds. This represents an upgrade from AA- given to similar GO Bonds last
issued by the Village of Homewood in 2006.
A rating upgrade like this will reduce the amount of interest the
Village of Homewood will be required to pay back during the life of these 2010
