Audit 08'/09' and Future Financial Plan
The Village of Homewood concluded its audit for the 2008/09 fiscal year. Managing partner Jim Pandolfi of the accounting firm Crowe Horwath, LLP presented the audit results to the Village Board at their October 27 meeting. Village of Homewood Director of Finance Dennis Bubenik also gave the Board comments on the audit. The Village concluded the year with a $723,821 deficit. This deficit was funded by the reserve fund or "rainy day fund" which is revenue accumulated in good non-recessionary years to use during challenging times like this.  Local governments will utilize this policy of riding out bad years with funds from good years in an effort to keep service levels constant. Bubenik cautioned that this policy cannot go on indefinitely. Read more.

Snow Removal Etiquette
  • When clearing your own sidewalks or driveways, it is illegal to deposit the snow on a public place such as a street or sidewalk.  It is usually best to wait to clear your driveway until after snowplows have cleared the street so you don't have to clear your driveway entrance multiple times.
  • It is mandatory that cars are removed from the streets for safe plowing when snowfall exceeds two (2) inches.  The Department of Public Works continues to plow streets even after the snow has stopped.  Repeated plowing ensures adequate removal of snow and proper salting.  Do not return your vehicles to the roadway until plow trucks have ceased repeated plowing and salting.  Violators are subject to ticketing and towing.
