Library Closed for Remodeling |
|
The Homewood Public Library will be closed August 1 through August 14 to complete its remodeling project. Homewood and East Hazel Crest residents may access most library services by visiting area libraries and presenting their Homewood Library cards. Patrons will be unable to place their own holds during this time.

Patrons should contact one of the three above mentioned libraries in order to place holds.

The Homewood Community Relations Commission and Homewood-Flossmoor Park District will host a 'petacular' Dog Days of Summer event on Saturday, August 15 from noon to 4:00 PM in Irwin Park.
- Watch costumed dogs strut Irwin Park in the annual pooch parade as they compete for "Top Dog" in five unique categories: Most Original Owner-Dog Team, Most Humorous, Most Unique, Best Celebrity Look-Alike, and Best in Parade (overall). Enter your pooch today!
- Enjoy an amazing Frisbee show by the Flying Aces; live entertainment & music.
- Win prizes when you compete in the dog treat stacking race, hot dog eating challenge, & Frisbee throwing matches.

Touch of Green Event: August 22 |
|
On Saturday, August 22, the Farmers' Market will feature a Touch of Green Event - free electronic waste recycling. Residents wanting to participate will also be helping a local not-for-profit, Assistive Technology Exchange Network (ATEN), provide refurbished computer equipment to students with disabilities.
The following items will be accepted for e-waste recycling:
- PC and Macintosh Computers
- Printers
- Monitors
- Disk Drives
- Cell Phones
- Ink Jet Cartridges
- Peripherals (mice, keyboards, etc.)
- CD-ROM Drives
- Software (original disks)
- Server Equipment
- Communication Devices
- Low-Tech Devices (switches, key guards, etc.)
All recylable items will be accepted as donations; participants will receive documentation of their contributions for tax purposes.

ATEN is a program of United Cerebral Palsy-Infinitec; it was established in June of 1995 in partnership with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). This processing facility is located at 7550 W. 183rd Street in Tinley Park.
Touch of Green Events feature eco-friendly activities for residents looking to conserve resources and recycle the items they use everyday.

Farmers' Market |

Remember to shop the Farmers' Market every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the parking lot of St. Paul Community Church (18200 Dixie Highway). The Market is sponsored by the Village of Homewood and Homewood Rotary Club. Market Vendors:

Dixie Highway Repairs Near Completion |

The final asphalt surface will be laid on Dixie Highway from 183rd Street to the north viaduct. Expect long delays if traveling on Dixie Highway. Remember that all merchants along the route are open during construction. Please utilize the side streets and free public parking lots: Hickory Road, Kroner Avenue, and Chestnut Road (Village Hall).

Southgate Sidewalk Sales in September |

Look for a giant sidewalk sale in the Southgate Shopping District in September. Ask your favorite Southgate merchant for details, or watch for information in an upcoming e-Newswire.
Also coming in September is Fall Fest and the annual Chili Cook-Off. Don't miss Homewood's favorite fall festival on Saturday, September 26 from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Hickory Road from Dixie Highway to Martin Avenue. |

The Police Department is reminding residents to practice good safety measures at all times of the day. The following are just a few tips that we encourage everyone to follow: 1. Lock your vehicles if they are parked outside. 2. Close and lock garage doors. 3. Take anything of value out of the vehicle. 4. Report any suspicious activity in the neighborhood. |
