Starry Nights Concerts: July 24 |
|
This Friday, come out to Irwin Park for Beatles' tribute band 1964. Advance tickets are $15/adults and $7/kids ages 12 and under. The concert will be held in Irwin Park. The Park will open at 6:30 PM with performances beginning at 8:00 PM. Food and beverages will be available. Starry Nights is a smoke-free event. Free Document Shredding & Recycling: July 25 |

This Saturday, July 25, the Downtown Homewood Farmers' Market will feature a Touch of Green event from 9:00 AM to 1:0O PM in the parking lot of St. Paul Community Church (18200 Dixie Highway). Eco-minded residents can bring their personal documents to be shredded and then recycled. This is a free service courtesy of Harris Bank in Homewood. Trouble deciding what to keep and what to shred? Veterans' Summer Picnic: July 25 |

This Saturday, July 25, the Homewood Veterans Committee will host its annual summer picnic at the Marie Irwin Community Center from noon to 3:00 PM for all active and retired members of the Armed Forces. Shop & Share for HPA |

Shop & Share is a program designed to help non-profit charitable and service organizations raise funds. The program offers groups a 5% cash return on purchases made at any Jewel-Osco store.
August 3 through August 5, the Homewood Police Association (HPA) will receive 5% cash return for all purchases made at any Jewel-Osco store. The HPA is a not-for-profit organization comprised of police officers and residents who assist the Homewood Police Department by raising public awareness about crime prevention and the general needs of the Department. The HPA also sponsors little league baseball teams, scouting, and local service groups. Each year, the HPA awards two college scholarships for local students.
To help raise funds for the HPA, simply download and print the Shop & Share Identification Slip and bring with you when you grocery shop August 3 through August 5 at any Jewel-Osco store. No additional purchases or contributions necessary - just buy what's on your grocery list. Contact the Homewood Police Department at (708) 206-3420 for further details. |
All Shops Open during Road Repairs |

Dixie Highway from 175th Street to 183rd Street is being resurfaced. There is no parking from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM along the route. However, merchants along Dixie Highway are still open during construction. Utilize the side streets and free parking lots located off Hickory Road, Kroner Avenue, and Chestnut Road (Village Hall). Questions about these projects should be directed to the Village Engineer, Max Massi, at (708) 206-3470. |
Block Parties |
In addition to the many special community events throughout the summer, the Community Relations Commission would like to remind residents that a block party is the best way to meet neighbors and simply have a great time. Learn more about hosting a block party this summer season. |

Former Little Leaguer in White Sox Minor League |
|
Homewood resident and former player in local Babe Ruth League, John Ely, is a pitcher in the White Sox Minor League System. Currently Ely plays in the AA Southern League in Birmingham (AL). This week, Ely was named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week. Read on.
Congrats to the Ely Family. We will continue to periodically track Ely's status in the Minor Leagues and look for more Homewoodians in the headlines for future e-Newswire and Village Key issues.
