Red-Light Safety Camera Program Begins
|
|
Red light safety cameras will begin capturing still images and video of red-light running violators at the following designated intersections starting in May:
- Southbound Halsted Street at 175th Street
- Southbound Halsted Street at Ridge Road
- Southbound Halsted Street at 183rd Street
- Eastbound 183rd Street at Governor's Highway
- Northbound Governor's Highway at 183rd Street
The program begins with a 30-day warning period. During the warning period, a warning notice will be issued to the vehicle's registered owner without an attached fine. However, at the completion of the warning period, citations will be issued. As each camera is installed and placed on-line, the 30-day warning period will begin, which will give residents an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the public safety goals of the red-light program before actual citations are issued. Warning signs alerting drivers to the red-light cameras are posted on the street/road just prior to the intersection where cameras are in place. After the warning period is complete, vehicles that run through red lights at the intersections will be issued a citation and fine. |
